Being primarily a portrait photographer I wanted to find a lens that wouldnt break the bank but would afford me a chance to work much wider than I normally do. I decided to go ahead and purchase this lens and am very glad that I did. The lens is sharp and well built.
Update 5/24/2018: I received the new Rokinon lens after sending back the first one and took the same test chart image in RAW format which was focused using live view in my Nikon D800. This copy of the lens was very sharp across the frame and even sharp in the extreme corners at f2.8.
Ive never had a manual focus lens before so I was wondering how it would be to use. The worry went out the window after about 20 minutes. Its so easy to focus, especially because its a wide angle. As long as Im focused just past 10, Im good front to back.
This has become my NEW favorite lens for landscape and astrophotography! It’s incredibly sharp! The lens is manual focus and the focus ring is nice and smooth. There is very little distortion and any you get you are able to correct in post-edit.
Had this lens 2 weeks now...its a little learning curve being a manual focus lens, but nothing to worry about.Great lens at a great price since I cant afford the Nikon ultra wide lens.
Received my lens today so I was keen to get out and shoot (please see first sunset taken today) This lens is so sharp I am blowing away. Its mounted on my Nikon D810 and took me about an hour to work out manual settings then it was so easy to use. Great price for a truly amazing lens.
This was a value purchase to have a decent wide angle when I dont want to compromise my Nikon lens. I was unaware that it is manual focus only, but with this wide of a lens, there is not selective focus options. Be mindful and enjoy!
Shot with the lens for the first time this morning. Partly cloudy day with diffuse light. Fortunately, I seem to have received a good copy of the lens and haven't had the focus problems some others have complained of.
I purchased this lens mainly for architectural interiors. On FX format it yields a very wide angle of view allowing for some very nice compositions. Stopped down to f8 or f11 the far corners are nice and sharp. Color rendition and contrast, are first rate.
In March (0f 2018), I purchased the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Ultra Wide Angle Fixed Lens w/ Built-in AE Chip for Nikon. So far I have been extremely pleased with its performance, and will update this post as needed.
