I purchased this lens for star photography but it never seemed quite sharp, so I took it to my camera repair shop to have it tested. Indeed it did not focus at infinity. It will focus at 10 feet. Am now in the arduous process of returning it to Rokinon.
This lens really impressed me with how sharp it is wide open, but it blew me away at a hair over $250. Not only is it sharp, even very close to the corners, but it controls saggital flare and keeps point light sources (xmas lights/stars) crispy to an incredible degree (even right at the corners!).
I use it for make astrophotography and landscape. Detail and images are fine, it doesn't produces high distortion. One of my favorite.
I bought this as the next step in wide angle lenses. My previous most used lens was a Nikkor 18-35mm which is a good lens but cost twice as much as this one. This lens is full manual. Aperture and focus is set by you each time.
The only lens I brought with me at the antelope canyon.
Image QualityThe lens is very sharp with a few minor soft spots that can be easily corrected in post-production if you're a pixel peeper. If minor soft spots in the initial photo bother you then just skip to the 14-24mm Nikon F2.8, or equivalent, but chances are you were considering this lens...
Can't beat it for the price. manual focus takes some getting used to but once you do it's great
Focusing can be tricky until you get used to it. Great lens for the money.
Wide angle lens with excellent optical quality, I'm satisfied!
Looked at many reviews and options for a good lens to use with astrophotography. The weather hasn't been very cooperative to try out with the skies so far, but the test shots I have taken just around have been very satisfactory.
