Developing the Ignite as a slightly more affordable version of the Vantage M was a good idea on Polar's part. However, the final product forces too many compromises to be worth its $229 price tag.

  • +

Simple, attractive design., Nightly recharge feature helps you know how hard you should train depending on how well you slept., FitSpark feature suggests workout routines based on previous activity and sleep metrics., Accurate heart-rate monitor and GPS.

  • -

Finicky touchscreen., Only two watch faces to choose from., No onboard music storage., No NFC., No automatic workout recognition feature., iPhone users must manually sync Ignite to mobile app., Cannot do anything "smart" once the battery life gets too low.

The Polar Ignite is a fitness watch primarily aimed at runners, cyclists, and gym-goers. Our hope in testing the Ignite was that it would bridge the gap between some of the clunkier, more traditional altimeter watches by providing an option with a good price point that was slim and stylish enough to...

  • +

Stylish, comfortable fit, records many activities

  • -

Short battery life, inaccurate altimeter and GPS, touch screen difficult to use

The Polar Ignite manages to cram a whole lot into a small, comfortable design that's generally a joy to wear. It covers the sports tracking bases, it's well priced and in FitSpark, it has a feature Garmin, Suunto and Fitbit owners will no doubt be envious of.

  • +

Smart, good-looking design, Good value for money, Great smart workout recommendations

Overall Polar’s done some impressive things on the Ignite, mainly from a software functionality standpoint. The Nightly Recharge and FitSpark functionality are truly new within not just Polar’s lineup, but across the sports tech and fitness industry.

The Polar Ignite is in some ways, a revolutionary watch. It is the first watch that thoroughly observes your all-around fitness and recovery level and then recommends your daily workout based on how ready your body is for a workout.

  • +

    Inexpensive, innovative features, nice design

  • -

Backlight irreliable, uncomfortable watchband, heart rate inaccurate

Clean and simple but feature-rich, the Ignite sets a new benchmark for fitness watches that recommend workouts and track sleep and recovery. The recovery insights are deep and digestible, while the adaptive workout recommendations are as useful, easy to follow and motivational as we’ve seen.

  • +

Advanced sleep and recovery insights, Adaptive training recommendations, Good value

  • -

Touchscreen controls only, Rapid screen timeout, Touchscreen lacks responsiveness

The Ignite is the most advanced sports watch we’ve come across for under £200

  • +

The Nightly Recharge features offers impressive depth when it comes to tracking how well you’ve recovered during your sleep and the information is presented clearly., The Ignite suggests daily workouts across different categories based on how well you have recovered, and the workouts are good enough...

  • -

The sleep tracking is not always accurate, which hampers the usefulness of the Nightly Recharge and suggested workout features., GPS accuracy is iffy, with the Ignite consistently coming up short of the actual distance when running, especially on routes with lots of sharp turns.

Reasonably easy to use. Has great features and ad I am 85 and it covers all I need. For some reason it doesnu2019t always record my sleep fully and ANS recovery does not record at all. This is only a minor glitch .
