With a crop factor of 1.5x on the *istD cameras, this equates to a field of view similar to 21mm on a 135 format camera and is a little less wide than most of the opposition are achieving at the present time.
Good build quality, Nice protective pouch
Optically disappointing, especially wide open, High price for performance
Lens is better than the reviews indicate, a little soft in the corners wide open, but a stop fixes that. Great lens.
I've been a Pentax fan since I was a kid (70s). A great feature of Pentax is the lens mount size, on the cameras, has never changed. Any Pentax lens will pop right onto any Pentax camera. The benefit is older manual Pentax lens experience a doubling of the mm when used on a digital body.
I've gone sort of nuts buying Pentax lenses for my k5 and kx. I have the 10-17 Fisheye, 15mm Limited, 21mm Limited, 35 mm Macro Limited, 40 mm Limited, 70 mm Limited, 200mm DA*, 50mm Takumar m42 and just bought the 50mm f1.2 SMCA. I take a lot of events/street, flowers and nature shots.
As expected, this Pentax Limited lens is extremely well-constructed and works very smoothly. It's a pleasure to use it. Optically, the edges are rather soft until stopped down to f8, at which point it's quite sharp. Contrast is excellent at all apertures and definitely enhances image quality.
DA 15mm is unique in many way. First, it has a built-in lens hood which is made of high quality metal and has a very tight feel. Second, the focus ring is silky smooth and well damped. It reminds me of the K and M era Pentax manual focus lenses. Third, it uses a 49mm filter.
Stop down 2 f-stops from wide open and the images are razor sharp across the entire image! And compared to the kit lens that came with my Pentax SLR this lens is in another leigh. Colors are crisper and more vibrant and sharpness and detail is outstanding.
I can recommend this one, it takes really nice photos, great quality lens. I love it for architecture, and landscape images.
There are lots of wide angle lenses to choose from market out there. But only Pentax can make an ultra wide angle in such a small, compact and well-made lens like DA 15. Great lens for traveling, because you can simply put the limited lens in your pocket!
Nice lens. Excellent built quality. Image quality is decent (landscape shots under daylight) for a lens that has small build. Very unique design compared to other lens make.
Received this lens on tuesday. At first use, if you are not a wide angle user, you might not appreciate this lens as much as a regular 35mm lens. I have been shooting with my 35mm Ltd and 100mm WR and using this lens compare to the 35mm at first few days will probably make you wants to return it.
