I bought this lens to use in wildlfe photography and sports. Matched with the new Pentax 1.4 teleconverter, the combination delivers excellent results on my K-3. The SDM auto focus is fast and accurate and the image quality is as good as it gets.
I was surprised I bought this. I really wanted a 500 mm zoom, but reviews convinced me this would be a good choice. That and not wanting to cart around 2kg on the end of my camera. It is the first prime lens I have bought since a 135 mm one in 1977.How could I have been so silly?
I originally bought the Pentax 150-450mm as my primary telephoto, but found it to be inconsistent. So I now have the DA 300mm and boy what a lens, incredibly sharp, not too heavy and can be used on a K1 in FF mode. Highly recommended if you own a Pentax. Buy one, you won't regret it.

Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Lightweight, Quick Focus, Rugged, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
So far I have just used this lens for local wildlife. The reviews all said that the autofocus was quick, but I wasn't expecting quite how fast it was, or quiet. The quality of the lens is of the standard I would expect of a Pentax lens - top quality! .
Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Quick Focus, Rugged, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
I brought this lens on a two weeks safari in Africa (Tanzania). Photos are triple A for color rendition and details. The lens is sturdy and endured 2500 km of mostly rough terrains and 35 Celsius temperatures. Used it with the excellent Pentax K3. I warmly recommend this lens. Pierre Bouillon.
I bought this lens knowing that I was going on safari in Kenya. The results are absolutely amazing, takes photography up to a new level. Photographing animals in low light needs judicious use of a beanbag/tripod as slow shutter speeds are conducive to blurred photographs.
Quick Focus, Sharp Focus
The Pentax 300mm f/4 lens is an excellent telephoto. It's razor sharp and considerably lighter than an aftermarket 300mm f/2.8 telephoto. Unless you absolutely need an extra stop of light gathering ability, this is the prime lens to use. It's an excellent piece of equipment. Highly recommended.
I bought this lens for my Pentax K-50, to take pictures of wildlife on our trip to Alaska this summer. Have taken some pictures of a nesting pair of bald eagles near my home in Georgia. The pictures have been great. The lens is well worth the price.
My first shots with this lens were handheld moon photos. The detail is amazing, my family was asking where I found those moon shots and they were surprised when I told them I took them.
