I had this lens for 9 years now and it never ceases to amaze me. It was excellent on APS sensors, it's just as good on full frame. The AF is reasonably fast and precise and it never needed adjustments on any of my bodies.
I have been a pro shooter for almost 40 years, and am a lifelong Pentaxian. I have owned many Pentax lenses, and recently upgraded my old "Green Star" 300 f/4 to this lens. It is simply stunning, and one of the sharpest lenses I have ever shot with. Nearly flawless.
an excellent lens, durable, sharp with great rendering and image quality. A bit slow to focus in dim conditions with a K1 but no other 'cons'.
Consistent Output, Durable, Rugged, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
Mainly bird photography. Very heavy but that is the price you pay for rugged build.Expensive now but got mine new for £680!A bargain.
Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Quick Focus, Rugged, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
I've had this lens for 6 years. I use it for bird and wildlife photography. It produces a beautiful sharp image which is very useful when cropping is necessary as image quality remains high in any resulting enlargement.
This is the first Pentax star lens I bought and I really love the lens. The lens is extremely sharp and auto-focus is very fast in my modest K-50. I am not a pro and just an enthusiast.
Wasn't sure I would be able to hand hold in the field without a tripod before I purchased. Was pleasantly surprised that it's not bulky and delivers very sharp images. I feel it's a quality product just by holding in your hands. Quiet drive and searches focus quickly.
Best lens in my collection to date. You will not be disappointed. CP
This maybe my favorite lens. The image quality paired with the K1 is amazing. For me this is the perfect walking around lens, I own the DA560 also and it can get heavy when on a monopod and on a 5 mile hike around a wildlife refuge near me but the 300 is so small and light.
I really like this lens. It does so much better in lower light conditions.
