I initially the Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR Lens, rather than the 24-70 f/2.8 because of the price, it's wider zoom range, and positive reviews. Also the 28-105 has the quiet and quick direct drive autofocus motor, not the SDM motor.
Its a re-badged Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 for Pentax mount. It gains:a. Weather sealing instead of moisture resistance.b. Proprietary Pentax HD coatings. It loses:a. Image stabilization (Not needed as Pentax has IBIS)b. Price advantage.c.
Love this lens. It's extremely sharp (especially center frame), utterly silent and quick to focus, can create lovely bokeh, and handles comfortably. Before I bought it, I thought image quality might be a noticeable compromise from my go-to 31 limited as a walkaround lens, and it's most definitely...
My first day with this lens was at a pride parade in Columbus OH and this lens was the perfect one for this and any other walking around application. Very sharp, very portable, and supremely great images. Just what I have come to expect from Pentax.
Lovely lens... no complaints. A must have for a number of reasons....
Sharp. Not expensive (comparing to Sony, Nikon or Canon alternatives). Smooth. Hi quality product. I would recommend it to all wedding or event photographers with Pentax cameras.
Exellent low light. Quick and quite. and the colors jump right at you. Thank you so much. Dennis
This lens is perfect for the Pentax K-1. It offers a bright image in the viewfinder, fast autofocussing, and clear, crisp (and huge!) images.Even though it is a big lens, it's not that much bigger than the Pentax smc DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 ED AL (IF) SDM Lens which I'd been using.
hard to mount on camera, dot hard to see. that's the negative. take great close photos.
just started using, already very impressed, time will tell
