Tripod ;-) Case :-(
I have used a Gitzo for years but got the PD carbon fiber for travel with my Leica M4, with an additional QR plate for my a7R. The PD has worked out so well I use it more than the Gitzo, and would even use it for a two or three day hike but probably not longer because of tighter weight constraints (though still debating). The integral head works well enough that I don't see the need for another. Unfortunately, the case is so tight the tripod can be damaged when closing it. Even an additional quarter inch of length would have helped. Seems like the tunnel vision phenomena in engineered designs. Otherwise would have been five stars.

Near perfect but some room for improvements
I need not repeat what everyone else is gushing over. It's an awesome tripod. I did not realize how so many new innovations can be squeezed into such a mundane item.
However...
I have concerns about the tripod FEET. Good pieces of rubber, have good grip and absorbs shock, etc. But the hex bolt heads are “exposed” if you look at them form the bottom. Therefore sand, dirt, mud will get into those holes and they'll be difficult to clean. I wish there was a rubber plug that would seal these. My temporary solution was to drip candle wax into those holes. That will, however, mess up the inside of the tripod case and that's a different issue.

With spike feet, the tripod doesn't fit the case
I love everything about this tripod, but a bid added value for me was the case that comes with it, and the options to add spike feet for rugged terrain. So after going back and forth, I eventually got it, and honestly, it's maddening! The bag is snug enough even without adding the spike feed, but after mounting them, it just doesn't fit anymore. And it's not by much, it literally needed half an inch of material. It's such a small thing, honestly, it's ridiculous. Put such a damper on this purchase for me. Now I'm evaluating my skills as a sewist, I want to retrofit the bag to add more material to it because I can't attach it to my backpack otherwise. *frustrated grunt*

Best piece of Hiking gear I own.
For years I have struggled with finding the right combination of gear to pack my camera into the High Peaks and the Adirondacks of New York. The Peak Design Travel Tripod has met and exceeded all my expectations. It's small unassuming size packs exceptionally well into my hiking pack, and when needed there is no lack of performance. When opened up it is as solid and steady as any full size tripod, able to handle the cold, snow, and harsh winter weather while hiking at higher elevations. The ball head securely holds my 4x5 camera without sagging and all the controls and adjustments are very fast and intuitive. Peak Design outdid themselves on this one!

I have had my trip for about a month now. I originally ordered it for its packability and light weight and it was to be used on a June trip to Nome. The trip was cancelled but I have been using the Peak Design as my primary tripod with a Kowa spotting scope for birding. The tripod is light and packs up small but it is also very stable and quick to set up and pack down. At first I used the tripod as it came from PD but decided I prefer a video style head to allow panning the field more easily. I added the Universal Head adaptor and paired it with A Bento head and I am very happy with the stability and ease of use. So far, its great.

THIS review is about the plastic hinge for the mobile holder
I'll follow-up later on overall tripod and head. Overall, great job on the design and compact nature, although still think the total weight could have been around ~2.8 lbs.
Now for the ugly. The mobile holder is a fantastic and unique design. However, I just broke the the longer plastic folding hinge today after accidentally hyper extending. I didn't realize the hinges were plastic because the look and feel of aluminum like the main center column. My question is why did you decide to use plastic on the folding hinges and not aluminum all around? The difference in weight would have been negligible. For the amount of tension the internal springs present, the plastic hinges over time are susceptible to breaking, just like what I experienced just now. I'll buy a replacement, but really puzzling on the decision to use plastic hinges.

One word-WOW!!!!!
I received my carbon tripod yesterday. I spent this morning to playing it and I have to say, there is no BS on how it was described. This is the most intuitive tripod I have ever owned! To deploy the legs took just a few seconds, you guys really thought it all through. No more fumbling with levers to turn, balance etc. It is so simple now and most importantly-INTUITIVE! The stowed wrenches,bag hook, phone adapter and the ability to switch to downward camera mounting is just amazing. My D-800 sit perfectly on the tripod and BTW-no guessing if you camera is locked on the tripod.This tripod folds up easily and is very well balanced.

I love this tripod.
Great tripod, sleek, easy to use, very compact. There are a couple of things to improve upon though. The phone holder is kind of weak. Mine snapped apart during a trip. PD was quick to replace it though. This is a great tripod for professional cameras, but I use mine mostly with my phone, so I hope they improve on that piece. One other small thing is the plate that I have to take off when I have the phone mount on. What do I do with it? I wish there was a place on the tripod for it, much like the tool that attaches to one of the legs. Or have the phone adapter attach to the mounting plate. I just hate have a loose piece to only lose it. Other than those small quibbles, this thing is fantastic as a whole.
