The Panasonic Lumix G Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH. is a sharp, compact lens with a wide aperture and all metal build, but it does exhibit a little bit of distortion.

  • +

Quite sharp. Wide aperture. Manual aperture ring. All-metal build. Includes lens hood.

  • -

Some edge softness unless stopped down. Some distortion. Pricey.

I’ve really enjoyed shooting with the Summilux 15mm f/1.7, and found it to be an accomplished performer in day-to-day shooting. It autofocuses with lightning speed and unerring accuracy, and produces attractive images shot after shot.

This new wide angle prime lens for Micro Four thirds system cameras sports a fast f/1.7 maximum aperture, Nano Surface anti-reflective coatings, a manual aperture ring and a switch for directly changing between manual and autofocus modes without halving to delve into the camera's menu.

There is just one really sharp lens among the Micro 4/3 14-20 mm lenses: the Voigtlander 0.95/17.5. Still it has one serious flaw – its price. Additionally not everyone gladly accepts the lack of autofocus.

  • +

small, shapely and a very solid casing,, good image quality in the frame centre,, good image quality on the edge of the frame,, moderate lateral chromatic aberration,, no spherical aberration symptoms,, correct work against bright light,, very fast and efficient autofocus,, rich accessory kit.

  • -

    very high distortion,, significant vignetting.

The Leica name is like a seal of quality for Panasonic's Micro Four thirds lenses, and this lens lives up to the reputation in many ways. One surprising way that it doesn't is with the price.

  • +

Excellent sharpness, especially in the centre, Low falloff and CA, Robust build quality, Manual aperture ring, Fast focusing, Realistically priced, AF/MF switch is a useful addition

  • -

Aperture ring may not function on all Micro Four Thirds bodies, The auto setting on the aperture ring may be easy to select by accident, High distortion for a prime lens

There are plenty of technical reviews of this lens at this point. I'll just say that I'm currently using it on the new Oly Pen-F, I like it. It's sharp enough, it renders in way that is pleasing to me, and the in-between focal length is actually really nice if you like a wide view - though you have...

This lens is flawless. In addition to its quality, it's refreshing to be able to set the aperture on the lens out ring. Another nice detail is the AF-MF switch. In the few occasion when you want to use manual focus, it's easy to do it with this lensThis lens became my main lens, it's very good for...

For those who\'d like a sniff of what the FF Leica Q, with fixed 28mm f/2 Summilux, is capable of - this bucket list poor Pana-Leica cousin trumps Olympus alternatives c/o its aperture ring, if not its performance.

Aperture ring (but only works with Lumix bodies)
