I've had this camcorder for approx. 4 weeks and have tested it under day and night shooting with and without additional light sources (white and IR lights). I also own a Panasonic HC-W850K which is a few models earlier and thankfully this one has performed even better to that excellent one.
I've filmed several basketball games in 4K. They came out really well; a big improvement in quality over my cell phone (Samsung S7). I had to record three games in a row one day so I connected the camera to an external USB power pack (attached to my monopod) and it worked great.
I got this camcorder hoping to improve my videography, getting away from using my DSLR.I went with the previous reviews of this camera as a good starter.Easy to set up, however the touch screen use is kind of difficult with big fingers, but I get through it.
I have an older HC-VX870 that was having shutter problems so I ordered VX981K. So it looks just like the VX870 and accepts the same batteries. Great that I don't have to get new backup batteries and accessories.
I would have kept this camera if would have suited my purposes of getting professional sound out it, and it came SO CLOSE, but not close enough. I need to plug my mixer into a camcorder as I am doing Youtube demos of guitar pickups, using 2 XLR microphones into a stereo mixing board.
Best camcorder I have owned to this point. Great video quality and sound!
Excellent Quality for Great Price.
This is an excellent quality camera, we bought 3 for church video streaming to Facebook and they are top quality for this purpose.
We got the HC-VX981K for shooting small docs and it does wonders! It's not a full CMOS and it gets quite grainy on low lights, but if you manage to control your set it'll get the job done. As I stated before, a good option for the price range.
I received this in the mail and I was very unimpressed. I've already sent it back for refund. I should have purchased the Canon XC10 instead.
