Grey-ish black level, HDR can’t hit TV levels
With its extreme responsiveness, brightness and high frame rate support, the UHD38 is almost uniquely well qualified to take your gaming hobby to a cinematic level.

Seriously bright, crisp images, Super-fast response time in Enhanced Gaming mode, Bold colour and HDR performance, You don’t have a dedicated blacked out room The UHD38 is aimed more at the casual home cinema fan and doesn’t perform as well in dark room situations, favouring brighter rooms instead.

Black levels are very average in HDR, Some clipping with HDR, Long-throw lens seems an odd choice for a gaming projector, You have a small room The long throw distance means you’ll require quite a bit of space if you’re looking to view big-sized images.
The Optoma UHD 38 was easy to set up; we simply connected it to a laptop using an HDMI cable and plugged in for power. The color was very good and the picture clear and crisp, even though we projected onto a white sheet instead of a screen. This projector is an excellent value.
Installed a couple of these projectors recently. One in my home theater (upgraded from a Panasonic PT-AE 3000U) and another in my friend's basement. The image quality is amazing and am absolutely enjoying a rewatch of the 4K movies as I had watched them on 1080P only.

High Throw distance required to get a 150" image due to just 1.1 zoom.
Great projector! I upgraded from the HD28, and you can really see the difference. I have both gameed on PS5 and watched quite a few UHD movies. Both of which are the next level. The set up was very easy, I didn't have to adjust much of of the box.
