My main purpose for this lens is to manage depth of field with macro photography and other nature / portrait image capture. The lens is capable of creative freedom not possible with other medium format telephotos.A great lens for someone that has grown beyond standard prime lenses.
Bought this in 2009 for tricky product macros. It is not the E version but then that is something that I don't need and I'm glad I have the can't go wrong version. The only downside in handling is that you can't shift and tilt in the same axis, unless you change that.

This lens is awesome. I've been away from Nikon for several years using the Canon 5Dll and 5Dlll, and missed my Nikon lenses! Using it on the new Nikon D810
My interest in photography started in the 1960 as a serious amateur, with both 35mm film and 4x5 view cameras. I was fascinated by both photographing small animals and architecture, sort of the opposite poles of the art. I ended up using mostly a Leica and then NIkon F.
very good optical and construction quality, my favorite lens
Little difficult to master, but a great lens. I only wish it were possible to do autofocus. As this is manual focus, it has limited applications, but it's a great portrait lens. I recommend using a smaller aperture to make sure your focus is tack sharp.
I am still in the test phase, but the lens itself is really well built and very smooth. Pictures are sharp and it's easy to find the focus ring.
I do a fair bit of macro photography, and lately this lens has become my favorite. I tend to be "old school" and for a long time, my setup included an old bellows system with the Nikon 60mm macro.
I Use this for architecture, portraits, products. Very sharp, well built, manual focusing is smooth. Knobs are difficult to operate with gloves, otherwise hard to find faults with this lens.
This lens works perfectly for product photography. I'm very satified with this purchase.
