All in all, the D3300 comes up with many more pluses than negatives--it's a good little camera whether trading up or jumping in for the first time.
-
+
Light and compact platform, Good still and video image quality, Good ISO performance, 5 fps continuous shooting rate
-
-
Automatic video autofocus only average, Wi-Fi optional, not built-in, Built-in flash will overheat and shut down with continuous usage
![]() |
Like the older D3200, the new Nikon D3300 easily earns our recommendation. Image quality is excellent and videos have taken a nice step forward. We still have to knock Nikon for the mono sound in 2014 and asking people to pay another $60 for Wi-Fi via an adapter.
-
+
Excellent stills, Easy to use, Improved video quality
-
-
Mono sound, No built-in Wi-Fi

The Nikon D3300 is an entry-level DSLR with an impressive spec list, including a 24 megapixel sensor and 1080/60p HD video recording. It provides the right level of controls for a beginner, offers a number of in-camera retouch options, and boasts excellent battery life.
-
+
24 megapixel APS-C sensor is one of the best in its class, Light, well-balanced body, Detailed, smooth 1080/60p HD video, Customizable Fn button allows for direct access to ISO or white balance, Rear command dial makes shooting in P, A and S modes easy, Raw files offer ample room for corrections...
-
-
Rear command dial can't be used with 'info' menu change settings more quickly, Useful settings like Auto ISO on/off and Active D-Lighting buried in camera menu, Can't change aperture while live view is engaged, Auto mode continues to use very slow shutter speeds with flash turned off, Movie mode...

The Nikon D3300 is a solid camera, in more ways than one: solid build quality and solid image quality. While autofocus performance is a little below average, and the limited external controls and smaller size may be a turn off for some, the D3300 excels in most areas.
-
+
Excellent image quality with lots of fine detail; Very good high ISO performance; Good dynamic range; Good print quality; Deep buffers with JPEGs; 1080/60p video; Uncompressed HDMI output.
-
-
AF struggles in low-light; Contrast-detect AF in live view is slow; Buffer depth is shallow with RAW files; No AE bracketing; No built-in Wi-Fi., Autofocus can struggle in low light, Weak and inconsistent flash test exposures, Slow contrast-detect autofocus in Live View mode, Aperture not adjustable...

Very good photo quality for its class plus decent performance make the Nikon D3300 A solid choice for a first dSLR.
-
+
The Nikon D3300 's photo quality improves on its predecessor, and while it's not incredibly fast it performs pretty well for its price class.
-
-
The feature set remains pretty limited.
![]() |
The Nikon D3300 will serve the entry-level DSLR market extremely well, offering a good value to inexperienced photographers looking to take a step forward from point-n-shoot cameras to more advanced models. The D3300 creates high-quality images and performs fast versus others in its class.
-
+
Good image quality versus other entry-level DSLRs, Performance in low light is good with minimal noise in images, 24 megapixels of resolution surpasses most entry-level DSLRs, Fast performance in Viewfinder mode versus similarly priced interchangeable lens cameras, Nikon included its latest image...
-
-
Only a basic list of features for a DSLR, No touchscreen or articulated LCD, No built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, Camera's performance slows significantly in Live View mode, Would be nice to have more choices of resolutions than three, Camera's popup flash doesn't open automatically when its needed; must...

Nikon has always made solid entry-level DSLRs for beginners--can their latest option measure up?
![]() |
The Nikon D3300 is an upgrade to the D3200 aimed at delivering maximum sharpness from a sufficiently good lens. It opens the door for buyers to reach for more expensive Nikkor lenses.
-
+
Low image noise, Very good sharpness, Accurate AF system, Short shutter-lag, Excellent time-to-first-shot, Full HD video with autofocus, Good build quality, Easily usable with gloves on
-
-
Some over-exposure, Below average AWB, AF on the slow side, ¾s video record delay, LCD glare when settings are changed, Self-timer resets after each use, Odd Auto ISO behavior, Exposure steps always 1/3 EV, Mount lacks autofocus mechanical coupling

The fact that you can buy a 24.3-megapixel DSLR (with a decent lens) for $650 shows how competitive the digital camera market has gotten recently. The Nikon D3300 is an excellent entry-level DSLR camera for aspiring photographers, delivering a good feature set and high-quality images.
-
+
Small for a DSLR, Retracting lens makes camera compact, Sharp, clear images with accurate color, Video has smooth movement, Great price
-
-
No tilting LCD screen, Limited shooting controls, such as noise reduction options, More noise (graininess) than many rivals capture in low-light stills and video

Missing some features you’re willing to pay more for
This camera is stunning. It has a very powerful sensor, easy controls, accessible dials, and plenty of controls. Also, the ISO can achieve good results, but above 400 will create noise. However, as a first DSLR, you couldn't go wrong.
I am not a professional, but I do take pride in the pix that I take and have won a couple of amateur awards. Prior to buying this camera, I did a lot of research and compared the major brands. I was favoring Sony and Cannon because I have owned both as a non-DSLR.

The D3300 is honestly a good choice for new dslr users. I took several photography classes in HS and College but haven't picked up a camera outside of my phone in years. I though it would be a steep learning curse for me but it only took a day to figure out how to take full advantage of the...

Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, High ISO Performance, Large Clear LCD
This camera bundle is one of the better camera bundle values around. The camera body (D3300) is great and the Nikkor 18-55mm AF-P VR zoom, 55-200mm AF-S VR zoom and the 50mm prime (manual focus but a great indoor prime lens) are all very good lens.
