Great handling, great images, and not too bad a price - this Nikkor prime lens is a cracker.
High sharpness, good retro-compatibility
No AF/MF mode
Making a super wide angle lens is not an easy task and lens manufacturers often have to accept one or another trade off in order to bring to market a product that would be reasonably priced and still deliver acceptable performance.

This is truly awesome lens that may be used on both FX and DX format cameras. The field of view is fantastically wide without being really distorted like a fisheye lens. The build quality is very, very good, what you would expect from a Nikon lens.
Consistent Output, Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
A real specialty lens: If you need a super wide angle FX format lens that's sharp edge to edge with little-to-no "barreling" this may be for you. Our work use is as part of landscape visualizations where we match up a real life scene with virtual constructions - so deep perspective plus rectilinear...
First of all, it cracks me up that one of the few reviews I read that was on target and really put this lens in it's proper place was one by a review site that is constantly derided for reviewing things he's never owned. Well, he was right on target for this one, and obviously owned and used it.
This is one fantastic wide angle. Superb edge to edge sharpness, great contrast, great flare control. I considered buying the Nikkor 15 3.5 but I felt the capabilities of my F5 are better exploited with the 14 2.8.
Linear image, special effects possible by tilting and manipulating the lens, sharpness, contrast, build quality, flare control.
No hard case included,no hard cap included either. Would have liked bayonet filters as opposed to gel.
