The Nikkor 70-300mm VR is a classy telephoto zoom for both Nikon film and digital SLRs. It offers a powerful range which perfectly complements general purpose zooms like the DX 18-70mm, the vibration reduction facilities are very effective, while both the build and optical quality are a step-up from...

  • +

Great all-round telephoto zoom., Very effective VR anti-shake facilities., Fast and quiet SWM focusing., Perfectly complements DX 18-70mm lens., Works with full-frame bodies.

  • -

Bigger and heavier than DX 55-200mm VR., Zoom ring a little stiff, but at least no creep., DX 55-200mm VR a cheaper alternative.

This telephoto zoom lens costs around £440 and covers the popular 70-300mm range plus it sports Vibration reduction and a silent wave focusing motor.

Hands on Nicely and conservatively finished in semimatte black, this lens is a good match with medium to heavy Nikon bodies (such as the D80), but it's very nose-heavy on lightweights like the D40.

This lens is on my camera 80% of the time. I use it for bird, insect, portraits, sports, airplanes, and even some landscapes when you want to narrow your shot to something specific.

Some reviews I read about this lens gave me pause as to whether I should purchase it or not. With Crutchfield's return policy I felt that I had nothing to lose by purchasing this Nikon 70-300mm zoom lens to give it a try.

  • +

Long focal length for nature photography; sharp images with very little distortion, great color; light weight for a lens of this focal length.

  • -

Not the fastest lens. Due to the physical size of this lens a tripod mounting bracket should have been included. But, for this price, I am not complaining.

Amateur photographer shooting, wildlife, landscape, nature, etc.Broke my 55-300 DX lense and decided to replace it with this lens. It is heavier, but I love that it does auto focus so fast and will auto focus on manual. Also is supposed to be more durable which I think I need!

I have used this lens and I am pleased with the pictures. Working with BuyDig was a lot easier than tying to buy the same lens on the Nikon site in which I gave up on. I liked the quick delivery too.

I upgraded to this lens just after it came on the market sometime ago. It was a big improvement from my previous Nikon Lens, and that old lens was great in itself. Nikon continues to impress me with their products. It is a great lens for the money and Nikon delivers with this.

Very good lens for the price. The VR works fairly well, although you do need a steady hand to work at much below 1/320 at 300mm. Also, the focus is not too reliable at longer distances, even in brighter light.

I was hesitant paying so much for a lens at first, but this lens is amazing! Worth every penny. Took my Nikon 5100 to the max with 300 zoom you can reach almost anthing youd want.

I bought this lens as a cheap foray into the world of Nikon once again. The lens is a exercise in mediocrity. It's not a bad lens but it's not a great lens. It is priced in the middle for a middle series lens. It's not cheaply built, on par with the gold ring lenses.

  • +

-Reasonably Well built, -Focuses reasonably closely, -Dual Mode VR

  • -

-To get a sharp picture (but it will do it), -Turning on the VR will cause you photo to loose sharpness, -A little on the porky side

I'm a casual photographer and I enjoy shooting wildlife, natural scenes, and macro/texture shots. I've enjoyed the ease of use, and the vibration reduction is unbelievable. From the moment I mounted the lense and started using it, I was immediately excited and pleased with my new lens.
