Some people are nervous about using a teleconverter, as they have a reputation of reducing image quality by a noticeable amount. This new converter from Nikon proves that doesn't have to be the case.

Reduction in sharpness with converter is almost imperceptible, Excellent build quality, Reasonably lightweight and compact, Reduced falloff with converter, Weather sealed, Support for Nikon's latest lenses with electromagnetic aperture, Fluorine coating on lens surfaces to repel dust and moisture

Price could be difficult to justify if you don't own a lens with an electromagnetic aperture, Extra tab on front bayonet mount prevents mounting third party and older lenses on the converter.
I used this in conjunction with the Nikon 200-500 and the Nikon D7100. Fine focus calibration was necessary in order to achieve sharp images. I needed a +7 on my fine focus adjustment. Once that was done my images became satisfactory. Just know that this may not be plug and play.
TC-14E III stays glued to my Nikkor 300mm f/2.8G VRII. I get 40% extra reach with excellent IQ. I shoot mostly handheld with VR II on and IQ the result is near perfection.
Exceeds my expectations! Surprisingly high level of detail with only a loss of one F stop. Excellent results using Teleconverter with an 80-400 VR lens handheld--images are captivating.

Lightweight. Extends reach without noticeable loss of detail

This AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E lll does an excellent job when coupled with the Nikkor AF-S 80-200 f2.8 D, the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4E PF ED VR Lens, or the NikKor 200-500mm f/5.6 E ED VR Lens. Image quality is excellent with the teleconverter, TC-14E lll used on the above lenses.
I used the teleconverter on my Nikon 300 2.8 to photograph the total solar eclipse. During some 'practice sessions', there were no visible affects on the image, and photos appear equally as sharp with, or without, the converter. Looking forward to shooting (with camera) some wildlife!
A new lens was the final "push" I needed to upgrade to the Nikon TC14 E III from the prior version.I'm taking a trip to Kenya next month and will be using the new tele on the 300 PF and 500/f4 lenses.
I bought this Teleconverter to be attached into 70-200 and eventually a Nikon 200-400mm. I did use it with the 70-200 and works awesome. Good investment.
