In 2008 the Nikon 50mm f1.4G introduced a new benchmark for affordable performance from an f1.4 standard Nikkor lens. It easily outperformed its predecessor. But how does this lens hold up today, is it still a worthy investment to photographers who are seeking a large aperture normal lens (on...

The D-series lens might offer marginally better resolution but most buyers will probably prefer the G-series lens on account of its internal focusing and superior AF drive.

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G is the latest update to the venerable Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D. The Nikon communality has been expecting this lens for quite some time now, considering that the previous version of the lens was introduced in 1995 and has not seen any updates since then.

Excellent optical quality, Good build quality, Light weight, Good value

Focusing speed lower than previous version, 58mm filter size not common for Nikon prime lenses.

The newest version of Nikon's storied 50mm f/1.4 boasts a redesigned optical formula for more effective flare prevention. A 75mm equivalent on Nikon smaller-sensor DX bodies, this $500 (street) full-framer also has a circular-bladed aperture for smoother defocusing. HANDS ON

I was pretty apprehensive about selling my $ (barely 1 year old) Nikon 50mm 1.8G and upgrading to this lens. After all how much better can a lens which gives you 2/3 more stop really be...right?Wow. Creamy bokeh, tac-sharp focus, and outstanding performance wide open make this one a keeper.

Purchased for a D600 which already has the 70-200mm f4 lens.Took pictures but when viewed on my large display for photo editing I noticed the primary subject was out of focus. Web search described corrections for AF using the "AF fine tuning". Did that and it seems to be fine.

For beginners remember this is a prime lens so there is no zoom available. Have to move your feet to frame your shots. The upside to prime lens is that the image quality can't be beat.

Fast prime lens, general focal length good for lots of shooting scenarios. Superb image quality.

Really can't go wrong having this lens especially on full frame camera.

I've owned the Nikkor 50 1.8, the Nikkor 50 1.4D and the Nikkor 50 1.8D. Somehow, this one is producing amazing photos. As always, it's not the camera/lens that makes great pictures, its the photographer, but I can't help but give this lens tons of credit.

15 July 2015

Ever since I purchased the 50mm f/1.4G, it has become my everyday lens for walking around. It is small and light so doesn't weigh me down. I can get shallow depth of field to focus on the eyes of my subject sharp and crisp while letting the rest soften out of focus and the background smooth in...

This len takes very sharp pictures from f/2.8 to f/8 . Photos taken with this len has a very natural look and colors. Great upgrade from my older 50mm f/1.4D.

I use the Nikon 50mm f/1.4 lens to photograph famous paintings around the world in dimly lit museums. This lens provides excellent resolution, even at f/1.4, with little distortion.

Great lens. If your just starting out as a photographer like myself, the bokeh is awesome with this. I used it on a D60, the bokeh was O.K., just turn it to landscape to get the f/1.4 and it was very good then...I put it onto my D3100 & it was the BEST! Right on auto it was f/1.4.
