The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm f/4G ED VR lens can shoot images at dramatic wide angles, but it needs to be stopped down for edge-to-edge crispness.

Good center sharpness. Optically stabilized design. Ultra-wide field of view.

Noticeable distortion at 16mm. Soft edges at wider apertures.
When you talk about lenses these days you always have to bring in the multiplication factor, especially when you have a lens that fits comfortably on both so-called full-frame and APS-C sensor cameras.
This new lens, the Nikon 16-35mm, is the world’s first ultra-wide zoom to offer vibration reduction (VR-II) technology. The What Digital Camera Nikon AF-S 16-35mm f/4G review finds out how it fares

Stunning optical quality

Slippery barrel finish
Overall this lens is a very good all round performer being capable of producing images of very good resolution, especially in the centre of the frame where the performance is excellent up to 24mm and very good thereafter.

Good all-round resolution performance, Lighter than f/2.8 lenses, Accepts 77mm filters, Vibration Reduction

Barrel distortion at 16mm, Vignetting at 16mm
The 16-35mm Æ’/4G VR is an impressive design, providing excellent results for sharpness at its wider angles. It's evident that the optics of this lens are quite complex, to deliver high sharpness across the frame with only moderate chromatic aberration and vignetting and at a relatively affordable...
If I had to choose a single lens to use for the rest of my mountain life, without question it would be a wide-angle zoom. In my case, it would be Nikon’s AF-S Nikkor 16-35mm f/4G ED VR wide-angle zoom lens. (But anything similar would probably do the trick as well.
The list of pros and cons resembles more that of a not especially fortunate device with a price tag of just several hundred PLN. It is difficult to believe it describes a lens costing 4,000 PLN, aimed at advanced if not downright professional photographers.

solid and compact casing,, good resolution in the frame centre,, negligible longitudinal chromatic aberration,, silent and efficient autofocus,, moderate vignetting for this class of equipment.

weak image quality on the edge of the frame,, manual focus ring has some slacks,, very high distortion on wide angle,, badly corrected lateral chromatic aberration at shorter focal lengths,, noticeable spherical aberration,, distinct astigmatism,, coma in the corners of full frame should have been...
On our 16 MP DX test camera, the Nikkor AF-S 16-35 VR is a very good wide-angle to normal zoom lens that shows very good to excellent resolution in the center and very good border and corner sharpness at short and medium focal length settings.
The lens many Nikon photographers have been waiting for, an ultra wide-angle professional quality zoom lens with a constant aperture of F/4, Nano-Crystal lens coatings and Vibration Reduction.

Barrel distortion at 16mm, Vignetting at 16mm
On our 10 MP DX test camera, the Nikkor AF-S 16-35 VR is a very good wide-angle to normal zoom lens that shows excellent resolution in the center and very good border and corner sharpness at most focal length and aperture settings.
This is a follow-up to my previous review now that I've had a chance to use it in the field. I'm really impressed with the super-fast autofocus and the outstanding results. This is a keeper!
Probably my favorite lens. I shoot mostly landscapes and love the 16-35 focal length. It is so versatile. And having Vibration Reduction (VR) is great and makes it so forgiving when it comes to camera shake and also makes it more forgiving in low-light conditions.

Great nice and wide focal length for landscape. Yet still usable at 35mm for street and portrait work. VR.

Honestly can't think of any. Some may think it expensive but it's worth every penny to me.
I sort of bought this lens by accident. I was in Hong Kong on holidays and more or less determined to buy some camera gear whilst there. I can't say I really wanted this lens over other lenses such as the 24-70 but it was in a better price range than that lens.

Excellent performance at pretty well all focal elngths and apertures, highly effective VR

None really but the build quality seemed a little less than I expected but having said this it is still very good.
Considered both the Nikon 14-24 f2.8 and the Tamron 15-30 f2.8 but, chose the 16-35 due to ability to use circular polarizer and neutral density filters.

Great for landscape photography. Super sharp. VR useful in dim light even with a wide-angle telephoto.

None as of yet.
As a new convert to digital from a lifelong of film photography, I'm slowly rounding out my lens collection. For work, I photograph people predominantly, and needed a wide-angle that gave me more background coverage than I currently have.
I love it! I was on the fence between this lens and the 14-24 f2.8. I had rented the 14-24 for some night sky shooting and liked it. But it is so big and heavy, it really is a specialty item.
This is a very sharp lens. Auto focus is fast and the VR feature all but negates the fact that the maximum aperture is f4. .
I had read reviews on this lens but there is nothing quite like using a lens to see how sharp it is. This lens is a beauty can't recommend it enough and it is a steal at this price. forget the 14-24 f2.8 get this lens and save yourself a load of cash.
