I haven't had this lens but for a few weeks - the results are amazing. Be it shooting wildlife, or lunar work, it excels. The images are crisp, clear... I use it on a Gitzo tripod with a Wimberly head for the most part, occasionally on a Gitzo monopod with a RRS head (quick release).
Consistent Output, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Nice Bokeh
This lens is great, I'm not a good photographer, but if you have the best lens in the group you win! I can do a few hand held shots, but you really need a monopod or tripod.
Being a wildlife photographer and wanting that little bit more, I purchased the Nikon 600 VR. Wow what a lens! Immediately booked a trip to yellowstone. Wildlife were plenty and my lens captured everything I was looking for. Fast focus and crisp. A bit heavy to tote around, but then its a big lens.
Great lens for wildlife, but is does take some getting use to. I spent time in the back yard and forest preserve just getting the hang of it and it did really pay off. Simple issues such as going to manual focus, framing shots and even how your mounting equipment behaves changes when jumping to this...
I have used this lens in a Government testing enviroment. I can be a long way off and still capture crisp clean sharp images. I highly recomend this lens.
Consistent Output, Durable, Easy To Clean, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction
Heavy, Need a pod with this one
