Despite having a wide zoom range, Nikon’s 55-300mm zoom failed to deliver anything special of significance. As such, and given its DX-only sensor coverage, potential buyers may prefer to choose Nikon’s AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR telephoto zoom, it delivers a more refined performance and better...

Nikon's longest zoom for cameras with APS-C-size sensors (DX format), this 5.5X 55–300mm f/4.5–5.6G VR ($360, street) scales up to the full-frame equivalent of 82.5–450mm. It offers two elements of ED glass, a high-refractive-index glass element (a DX first), Vibration Reduction II, the quiet SWM...

This lens really lets you reach out and find distant objects. I was initially going to purchase my D3300 with the 18-55 & 55-200 kit lenses, but decided to get the body with only the 18-55, and spend a few extra dollars for this lens. I could not be happier with my purchase.

Limited use as bought for a gift for my wife, a little slower than my 70-300 VR but picture quality fine and just as good on D300 and D7100. Just a little slower to focus Updated 3rd Feb.

Good quality with low weight and low cost

I probably wouldn't have purchased this at retail cost, but over half off wasn't something I could turn down to add to my glass collection. Was this review helpful? |

My main goal in having this lens was to photograph hawks and falcons in our neighborhood. My longest reach before this lens was 200mm and I knew the extra 100mm would give me more shot options. What's great about the lens is the sharpness and color. Both exceeded my expectations.

The lens was a gift for my daughter who was absolutely delighted. She hasn't been able to give it a thorough outdoor test due to recent bad weather. She has taken excellent short range pictures and has no complaints. It will take more time for a complete outdoor evaluation.

I bought this lens to go with my D5200, I already had the 18-55mm but needed close-ups so after reading many reviews on this particular lens I decided to purchase it. I am not a photographer but I do take a lot of pictures for my job. It's a good lens and it serves the purpose I need it for.

I love using this lens when photographing outdoors, which I do predominantly. It brings the distance to me and allows me to capture details not otherwise evident.

I love this lens. I've been searching for a good zoom lens and found this one for the right price. Moon. Mountains. Family. It does it all. Love it.

They say if something is too good to be true it probably is. In this case I am still trying to discover what the catch is. I am way more than satisfied.
