The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR adds image stabilization to the workhorse lens of many a professional photographer.
Optically stabilized design. Constant f/2.8 aperture. Quite sharp. Solid build.
Uneven illumination at f/2.8. Edge performance suffers at wide apertures. Some distortion. Premium price.
I use this lens for sports and event photography and find the focusing to be much faster and more accurate. Image quality seems better than the old version. I got excellent results shooting in low light at 1/15 sec on D4s using the VR.
Faster focus, More Accurate Focus, More comfortable to hold, Sharper Image, Size Weight Not An Issue, Sturdier Feel
Cost, Hood Harder It Install
My copy was defective. Also, too heavy and expensive. Don't do it. Nikon went the easy route and made it bigger and clunkier rather than smaller and sleeker.
