Nikon's latest 60mm Micro lens replaces the old D version and adds a silent wave focusing motor, a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture, internal focusing and can be picked up for around £365. This lens is compatible with both FX and DX format cameras.

The latest version of Nikon's legendary close-focusing 1:1 "normal" macro (the first was the 55mm f/3.5 of 1961), this full-frame lens ($490, street) incorporates aspheric and ED glass elements, with Nikon's Nano crystal coating, indicated by the gold "N" logo, for suppressing internal flare and...

In its own right, the Nikon 60mm Æ’/2.8 AF-S is an excellent lens, providing excellent results for sharpness, tolerance to CA and almost no distortion. Light falloff is a little noticeable when mounted on a DX body, and very significant on a full-frame body like the D3, but only if you shoot wide...

The Micro-Nikkor AF-S 60mm f/2.8 G ED is an excellent lens that delivers very sharp images straight from the maximum aperture down to f/11, where diffraction starts to reduce resolution. Typical for macro lenses it is practically free of distortion.

Those looking for a short focal length macro lens for their Nikon camera can't go far wrong with this new 60mm from Nikon. It is competitively priced and well featured, with the fast silent wave focusing motor and Nano Crystal lens coatings.

  • +

Excellent sharpness performance, Nano Crystal Coating, Fast to focus for a macro lens, Very low levels of CA

  • -

Falloff of illumination towards the corners at wide apertures, No focus limiter switch.

Those few mistakes which we managed to find don’t change the fact that we deal here with a splendid lens. The most important thing is that it provides very good image quality across the frame up from the maximum relative aperture. It is exactly the most appreciated feature in a macro lens.

  • +

solid, compact casing,, sensational image quality in the centre and on the edge of the frame,, zero distortion,, low coma,, slight astigmatism,, coatings of excellent quality which give high transmission and the right colour rendering,, good autofocus work.

  • -

significant vignetting,, a bit too high chromatic aberration near the maximum relative aperture,, lack of a focus limiter.

The AF-S Micro Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 G ED is the latest in a long line of macro lenses from Nikon. Capable of true 1:1 reproduction, it features internal focusing, which provides faster, smoother autofocusing and also eliminates barrel length changes.

I use this lens mainly for food photography. I have a 105 Macro but sometimes I have to be too far back to get a shot of a couple plated dishes. I need the capability of also stepping in close for shallow depth of field / macro shots and this lens does that perfectly. It is Sharp!!

This is a very good lens length, it is very easy to hand hold and hand hold still. It is probably the best Nikkor macro of this range, I have owned the 55 mm 3.5 non-Ai, the 55mm 2.8 AIs and the 60mm 2.8 AF-d...

A very sharp lens, excellent in every way, except a slightly heavy, at times. Lovely portrait lens, excellent macro, good for landscape (if you're into stitching), actually good for a lot of uses! Oozes quality, and I got mine at a very friendly price!

  • +

    Sharp, very sharp

  • -

A little on the heavy side; not that cheap!

I use this for closeups, mostly flowers and landscape. I also find it's fun to use on other objects.

  • +

Consistent Output, Durable, Easily Interchangeable, Fast / accurate auto-focus

Great macro lens, only disappointment is that I wait over a year to get one!

  • +

Fast / accurate auto-focus, Strong Construction, Consistent Output

I do a lot of macro with insects and this lens has worked very good for me. The working distance is close when at 1:1, but it has a better depth of field than the f/2.8 100mm when you need every mm that you can get.

This is an outstanding macro lens, no denying it. I am not a vivid macro guy but occasionally do. If you use focus stacking etc, this lens produces incredibly sharp outputs. My pic added here is without stacking for illustration.

Very Sharp when comparing to Tonika 100mm

Tack-sharp is an understatement for this lens! It is quick to focus and spot on for really great images. You cannot beat this lens for the quality and price.
