Nikon's AF-S Nikkor 18-300mm F3.5-5.6 VR lens offers the longest zoom range currently available for any interchangeable lens camera system. But this comes with all of the usual optical compromises associated with a superzoom, in a large, heavy package.

  • +

Huge 16.7x focal length range (while maintaining F5.6 aperture at telephoto), Good image quality in the wide to short telephoto range, Fast, quiet autofocus, Good build quality, smooth zooming action and no zoom creep, Decent close-up capability

  • -

Very soft results at telephoto, Extreme distortion across most of the range (but can be corrected in-camera with recent SLRs), Image stabilization not as effective as on similar lenses, especially at telephoto end, Flash shadowing at wideangle on smaller SLRs, Large, heavy and expensive compared to...

It sports internal focusing, Nikon's second generation Vibration Reduction system and a maximum aperture of f/5.6 at 300mm, which is relatively bright for...

I hope not to make this long winded, but wow! First Build in best in class of all super zooms. Second this lens was produced ahead of its time. I mean, it matches my D7200 sensor perfectly for IQ, Sharpness, contrast, and resolution!

  • +

Consistent Output, Durable, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Strong Construction

Super walk about DX lens at an afforded price and light to carry about as well. Please give this a skip if you are using fullframe camera that best fit with FX lenses. Please do not mix this u with the full frame lens 28-300 f4.0.

  • +

Super walk about lens that delivers what is expected out of it

  • -

    Not a full frame lense

When your Daughter earns Salutatorian at High School Graduation you only get one shot at a lifetime event. You never know where you need to be to get the shot, till you get there. Things change, and you better be ready. I got los of great shots form about 200 yards away.

Outstanding lens. This lens replaced two of my existing lenses with much higher quality. Perfect for my Nikon D7100.

Covers just about every focal length you could possibly need in 99.9% of any given situation. Problem is pictures are distorted at both ends of the spectrum. Nikon usually updates their firmware to correct this distortion in-camera, but it hasn't happened yet.

  • +

    Great Focal Range, Sharp, Weight

    No Correction Profile

Traded in a Nikon 55-300mm that was not doing it for me. This 18-300mm is pricey but wonderful. Couldn't wait for a refurb model! Traveling, taking a lot of shots. Hasn't left my camera except for a day with a 35mm f/1.8 prime.

Fast Focus, Great Color, Not heavy, Sharp, Zoom lock

Wow, I didn't know this was possible. I loved my , but I wished I could focus closer and go wider. I loved my , but often wished it had more reach. After selling both to have an affair with the , which while fun was doomed to be a short term thing.

During a recent two week trip to Italy's Tuscany and Umbria, I seldom removed this lens from my Nikon D7000 camera body. This lens is amazingly sharp and offers brilliant color and contrast.

I purchased this to replace my 18-55 and 55-300mm lenses. This lens gave me the convenient of not needing to change lenses every time I want to switch from telephoto to portrait. It is heavy and I use the lens lock as much as possible to hopefully prevent the lens from creeping.
