Nikon’s new AF-S DX NIKKOR 18–200mm f/3.5–5.6G ED VR II lens (27–300mm 35mm equivalent) is an updated version of their popular 18–200mm lens that covers a significant 11.1x focal-length range and probably most of a photographer’s shooting needs.
Compact; wide coverage; effective Vibration Reduction
Lens creep; distortion
This 11.1x super-zoom lens for Nikon DX format SLRs costs around £590, sports silent internal focusing and Vibration Reduction II, which promises to allow hand-held shots to be taken at shutters speeds up to four stops slower than would be possible otherwise.
In this review we will have a look at how the VR II version of the lens performs on our current DX test camera, the Nikon D7000. The build quality is good, but clearly lower than professional grade Nikkor lenses.
I took my camera to a swim meet and a pre prom party and discovered just how great this lens performed on a D3200. Both pictures are edited to zoom in from 50 feet away.
This is by far my favorite lense. So easy to use and amazing clarity. The photo I shared was taken with this lens directly out of the box on a Nikon D3400.
Excellent all-purpose lens. Very happy with this purchase, and expect this to be the lens I use 95% of the time.
Broad range, from wide angle to telephoto. Reasonable weight, about 16 oz., given the outstanding.
I went with the higher end lens for convenience and quality. It works just fine. I am a newb to DSLR and such so take my input with a grain of salt. I have no complaint and works well. Everyone else talks highly about it as well. Get a good Sigma UV lens to protect it too!
This lens is a great all in one lens. I am a newly aspiring photographer, and this lens helps me take some great photos. I have taken to my boys football games and it takes great sport photos with it zoomed all the way to 200mm.
All in one lens, Easy To Use, Improves Picture Quality
A little heavy
Went on a 10 day cruise Dec. 6 .Packed my 10mm-20mm,and my 200mm-500mm for the birding I hoped to be doing.I was wrong,I needed this lens.Next time this is the first lens Ill pack.
I loved the earlier version except that the lens would stay at a predetermined zoom if you tilted it down or up. I gave the older one to my wife for her D5300 and purchased this newer version. The 2nd generation VR is much better and the zoom stays put at any angle.
Fine picture quality Great value
Very versatile lens. Took it with me on vacation to Italy and the photos, both wide angle and telephoto, were very good. Only other lens I took was my 35mm for low light shots in the Vatican and art galleries. It was nice not to have to change lenses constantly.
This lens replaced the 18-105 zoom lens that came on my Nikon D90. It has really increased my capacity to get moderately long shots that were previously impossible. I am truly impressed by the clarity of images taken 50-75 yards away. It is really a pleasure to use.
