Superb ergonomics

Slight softness at times
Nikon were the first to produce a dedicated ultra wide angle lens for their cropped sensor cameras and they obviously put all their experience of both SLR lenses and wide angle for smaller sensor (Coolpix) lenses to full use.

Superb optical quality, Compact and well built, Silent autofocus

Price, Slight pincushion throughout (Being picky!)
18-36mm lenses have long been many photographers' standard short zooms for full-frame shooting. Here's the equivalent of that range in a 1.5X 35mm lens factor for small-format digital Nikon SLRs only. Small DX image circle allows compact size with constant aperture.
Amongst the first of its kind, being a professional standard ultra-wide angle for DX format SLRs. Here we'll see whether the Nikon 12-24mm f/4 G ED-IF AF-S DX Nikkor can still hold its own.

Excellent sharpness, especially at 12mm, Light weight design, Good build quality, Decent flare performance with included hood

Strange distortion signature at 12mm may be troublesome to correct in software
ePHOTOzine lens tester, Gary Wolstenholme takes a look at the 12-24mm G ED lens from Nikon. As an innovative lens when it was released, can it hold its own against the new third party lenses?

The lense is very solid and mine performs well with being sharp with excellent contrast in the color rendition. Post processing is needed to capture the full capability of the lense. I use DXO and it correct the distortion from being a wide angle in close quarters.
First off, I'm new to this type of camera. I've only had good but still point and shoot cameras. I bought a Nikon D7200 camera and lens kit, not too impressed with the two lens that came with it. Did a little research and for the money this seemed like a good lens.
I purchased this lens used and had problems with really unsharp corners. I did some testing and determined the lens was de-centered. Sent it in to Nikon for repair and it came back better, but I still think the corners are soft at the wide end, even when well stopped down.

Very good resistance to flare, great color and contrast, sharp everywhere at long end and in center at short end

Corners at short end are soft, doesn't focus nearly close enough
so nice but so hard to use is one of the lens either you love it or hate it I can see why If I have to paid CAD 1000 for it I won't buy it I got a good deal on ebay nikon need to drop the price if they want this lens to be more popular (they have the replacement already)

well build, very useful if you love outdoor and landscape photography

This lens opens new experiences. Can't imagine which can be a better wide zoom for DX Nikons. At 18-36mm covers great wide angle range.
- Optimized for Nikon (DX Format) D1, D2-Series, D100 & D70 Digital Cameras.
