The Surface Headphones don't quite match Bose and Sony noise-canceling headphones, but they're a strong freshman effort with some compelling feature and design elements.
-
+
The Microsoft Surface Headphones are comfortable to wear, sound good, have touch controls and on-ear dials that allow you to adjust the level of noise canceling and volume. The always-on Cortana feature allows you to use voice commands without pressing a button first.
-
-
Sound could be better for the price, and battery life doesn't measure up to that of competing models. Cortana isn't as good as Alexa and Google Assistant.

“The Surface Headphones get a lot right, but the specs don’t match the price.”
-
+
Fantastic controls, Stylish minimalism, Good noise-canceling, Comfortable
-
-
No aptX or LDAC Bluetooth upgrades, Battery life isn’t competitive, App is pretty useless
![]() |
While they don't rise to the standard set by Bose and Sony, the Microsoft Surface Headphones are a pleasant surprise with solid sound and noise cancellation.
-
+
Spacious soundstage, Adjustable noise cancellation, Innovative dial and touch controls, Excellent connectivity, Comfy and premium design, Supports multiple Bluetooth devices
-
-
Battery life is lower than the competition's, Cortana app is necessary for most features, Bass can come on too strong

A headset with the name Microsoft would hardly have occurred to me just a few months ago. The developers from Redmond apparently don’t suffer from this lack of imagination, because the world’s largest software manufacturer has long since moved from its established position in everyday office life to...

The Microsoft Surface Headphones are good for commuting and traveling. They have a good ANC feature that reduces engine rumbles by quite a lot, but they're a bit bulky since they're over-ears. If you don’t mind their size, they're a good option for your daily commute.

Nice-looking headphones

Don't work great, don't sound great

Microsoft’s first crack at over-ear headphones is ultimately as impressive and stylish as all of Microsoft’s hardware. We were very impressed with the active noise cancellation and sound quality of these headphones, although the design may polarize consumers.
-
+
Brilliant sound quality, Effective noise cancellation, Intuitive controls
-
-
Design won’t appeal to all, Sound may be too warm for some
![]() |
The funny thing about the Microsoft Surface Headphones is that if you can look past the woeful voice assistant integration, the headphones offer a surprisingly warm sound the likes of which you don’t normally hear outside of a speaker.
-
+
Really warm sound with a richness more like a nice speaker, Very comfortable, Tactile control to volume and noise cancellation, Comes with a protective case
-
-
Sound might be too warm for everyone, and is slightly more warm than balanced, App is only available on Windows PC, Noise cancellation control doesn't quite deliver the same ambient noise cancellation control as other headphones, Cortana barely works, making it one of the weaker voice assistant...

Microsoft’s noise-cancelling headphones have a sharp look and a fun sound signature, but audiophiles won’t be bowled over
-
+
Engaging, punchy sound, Very comfortable, Neat touch controls
-
-
Noise cancellation is merely all right, Lacklustre mid-range reproduction, Less portable than some rivals

Considering Microsoft has never made headphones, these are accomplished cans. They’re a bit grey for our taste but the Surface Headphones are extremely comfortable and have handy features like touch controls and adjustable noise cancelling. We love the smooth analogue dials.
