Microsoft's Surface Book 3 15 is a premium device which, thanks to its unique design, has almost no competition. Where else can you get a tablet this powerful that can also transform into a laptop with even better (GPU) hardware? Even the tablet itself is faster than many basic laptops.
-
+
good build quality and materials, solid docking mechanism and base unit, powerful hardware, very thin and light for a 15-inch tablet, USB 3.1 Gen. 2, good SD card reader, above-average webcam quality, excellent 4K touchscreen, faster 3D performance than its predecessor, high-performance tablet,...

hinge makes the device unnecessarily thick and susceptible to dirt, maintenance is essentially impossible, Thunderbolt 3 requires expensive dock, no USB ports on the tablet unit, only 58% AdobeRGB (relevant for professional photo-editing), SSD is slower than the previous model, no CPU performance...

With an advanced mechanical locking system for the keyboard base, powerful graphics processing, multiple cameras and batteries, and a brilliant near-4K display, the Surface Book 3 is an innovative, excellent detachable laptop.

Pricey, Keyboard base adds significant weight

I’ve been waiting for the Surface Book 3 for two and a half years. Microsoft’s 15-inch Surface Book 2 was largely just a refinement over the original model — released nearly five years ago — so I was really hoping the company was holding back some big changes for the Surface Book 3.

Great keyboard, 3:2 nearly 4K display, GPU performance

No Thunderbolt 3 support, Hinge detach and GPU reliability issues, Battery life underwhelming

The Surface Book 3 delivers a solid refresh to Microsoft's detachable laptop family, offering more of almost everything. There is more performance thanks to the new Core i7-1065G7 and GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. There is more RAM thanks to the switch to LPDDR4X.

The Surface Book 3 is an incredible laptop/tablet hybrid, but you'll need something beefier if you want to edit video....
To preface why I got the 15' model for myself, I'm a professional musician and I've been looking for a HUGE screen for reading sheet music from a moderate distance. This is basically the only option, and it's perfect for me.
Even though it is pricy you get what you pay for. I love the fact that is functions as a PC and then a tablet. It is far superior to any MacBook on the market.
Love it, and fully impressed with the features. However, I will say it's much heavier than one might expect. I come from using an ultra-light laptop, so it took some getting used to. But the laptop is indeed powerful enough to do what you need it to do.
Great laptop/touch pad. The best I have owned. What can I say it just works with no headaches.
So far, we are really enjoying the versatility of the Surface book!
I'm not crazy about the onboard storage space & speakers other then that its a nice size an I like the battery life the most. Keyboard also feels nice.
