I was happy with Benro heads until I tried Manfrotto. There is a noticable difference. This has a much smoother pan and tilt. I use this with a 5D3 and 70D. Although it is a ball head, it can be used with any tripod or accessory that accepts a 3/8 thread. Solid build construction. Worth the money.
Several years ago I purchased a Slik/Daiwa DST-43 video tripod. The legs I loved-the head not so much. This 60mm half bowl works perfectly as a replacement head to match Daiwa leg set.
Great smooth fluid head--perfect for DSLR and even Micro 4/3 cameras. Easy to configure and set up. I'm actually using this on an older Bogen/Manfrotto stand but it fits perfectly. Ease of adjustment and nice quick release plate.
I own 2 of these heads to use in tandem for multi-camera use. I also mount one head on a glider and the other on a tripod so I can 'sandwich' the glider between the tripod head and the camera very handy to quickly go from just a tripod to a glider during weddings & live events.
This is my second MVH500A head, the first one is the flat base, I bought this for my Miller Carbon Fiber which had the 60mm bowl. I do a lot of wedding videos and this heads never failed me. I highly recommend this one.
Great video head. Not too heavy, super smooth. The only thing that would have made it five stars would be adjustable drag. But it's very nice. I have this one mounted on a flat base. I removed the bowl and adapter, and then removed the center bolt with an allen/hex wrench.
I use Manfrotto exclusively, so all my camera's have plates and I can interchange. Tripod, slider, jib, teleprompter. All have Manfrotto quick release plates, so anything can fit everything, Manfrotto heads in my opinion are the best bang for the buck, bar non.
This is a nice, well-designed head, but the 60mm ball size is unusual and it's nearly impossible to find sticks that are compatible with it without an adapter. For example, if you want to use the 055 or the 755, you're out of luck. 535? You need an adapter.
I bought a video tripod years ago and I liked the leg set but the head didn't thrill me. Lucky for me, Manfrotto makes a 60mm Half Ball head. I bought the MVH500A to use with the Slik Daiwa DST-43 legs. The fact that there is not a drag adjustment for horizontal movement doesn't bother me at all.
This is the smoothest head for small cameras I've ever used. Manfrotto comes through again for a price my budget can afford.
