These days a lot of photographers are also doing video and having the flexibility within your gear to do both is extremely important. Some video clients are also asking for vertical shooting for social media platforms. Either way this head could do it, and it's extremely sturdy.
Main reason I bought this was for using on photo shoot so when I need to go from portrait to landscape quickly. Which it does. Only issue is you unlock it to go into portrait configuration, there's no way to lock the verticals axis so it can pan on the Y axis.
I like the head very much. Big but light. Lots of knobs so sometimes difficult to see bubbles and pan degrees. But when you purchase everything in one, not everything will be perfect. Easy to switch cameras if you have multiple plates. No need for L-plates any more, perfect vertical camera position.
Manfrotto is a very reliable brand, the construction is great, it is made with magnesium but feels robust and stable. I am a photographer and have a lot manfrotto ball heads, but I want to start to make some videos with my New Sony a7RII and the head works just GREAT!!
A lot heavier than anticipated. Had to purchase a different tripod just for the tripod head. Does good job with video shoots and is very safe for my camera.
Im mostly a photographer and dont often do video, so keep that in mind. Ive had this head for about 4 years now and have started avoiding using it.Pros:-Smooth in all directions-Good adjustability on all axis-Enough bubble levelsI know thats just 2, but theyre really important.
I am going to try and sell this to get a fluid head instead of one thing that does video and photo. It's not fluid for video, and clunky at best for stills.
Have a heavy camera, and this holds it very, very well. No shift, no wobble.
Using on SLR video shoot. Very pleased with the outcome
I am using this head on a slider and works perfect, for my needs.
