Manfrotto Befree Advanced Travel Aluminum Tripod with Ball Head (Lever Locks, Black)

The Manfrotto BeFree is a compact and stylish tripod that comes with a stylish padded bag. The tripod is small enough that it will fit into a small photo / multi-use backpack such as the Lowepro CompuDay Photo 250, without adding too much weight.

I've bought a number of travel tripods just to return them or stick them in a dark corner of a closet after one use. The BeFree is the first one I've kept as part of my travel kit, though I did need to make one modification. I use Arca Swiss L-brackets or plates on all my gear.

Was looking for a small and light travel tripod from a good manufacturer that was not real expensive, this definitely fits the bill. Unit folds up nicely into a small travel bag with strap which will fit into luggage and go over the shoulder when walking around.

Pros: this is very small...see image and pretty light at 3lb 3.4 oz with ballhead on. The BeFree initial quality seems good, not as solid as my magfiber but pretty good. Super fast and easy to set up once you get a hang of those twist knobs at the top of the legs.

The main reason I bought this was to try a bag different from my LowePro. I liked that the BeFree had good outside mounting for the tripod. My version of the LowePro did not.I don't like that the padding for the waist strip is minimal versus the LowePro (much more padding).

I bought this tripod because it would fit easily into my backpack for travel photography. I mounted my RRS ball head on it. So far it has proven adequate for a Nikon D810 and smaller lenses like: 24mm f1.8; 58mm; 105mm and 180mm.

Great all round compact tripod for most situations. Not sure would be suitable for a huge lens but is not really designed for that. My only fault was first time I used it was really hard to release camera plate. Had to use pliers as was so tight. Would have given it 5 stars otherwise.

I was looking for a sturdy well made tripod at a reasonable price and this ticks the boxes

Very well made and easy to use. Holds up to 8kg which is very handy for heavy zoom lenses.
