I have been working with this tripod for almost 3 years now, and it's the only one I've ever owned. Having worked with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, I needed a tripod that could support the weight of a fairly beefy rig. This thing holds up every time.
Have been using a 4-camera portable studio from our local public access tv facility for church services. Tripods have been used and abused. Got funding to buy 3 new tripods and zoom controls. The difference is night and day! Tight action with smooth pan and tilt with ball head.
used it only a few times and play in tilt axis started. now 1/2 inch of play while locked. even out of box pan and tilt smoothness sucked as well as the level of control
I have several other Manfrotto tripods including ones with the 504HD head with the 055 legs and a 500HD with 190 legs. This is the best in usability and ease of use. Other advantages is the height for shooting over crowds.
It's a high quality tripod and I'm sure most videographers would love it. The legs are fairly light but when you combine it, with the 504HD head, it really becomes very bulky and heavy, at least to me. It would probably be considered "light" to most guys.
This head is designed very well. It is nice and heavy!! Made with solid parts and is simple to operate. I've used this at a few hockey games on a pair of 535 carbon sticks, and has made the world of difference. Fluid head makes for smooth movement in both pan and tilt plus both can lock easily.
504 Head/with 535 stick - easy set-up well balanced and smooth. Can get real low stick shots. Great unit.
As advertised. No complaints.
Awesome combo. The head is nice and smooth (a tad heavy when I'm running around on a doc style shoot, but worth the extra effort), and the legs are super tall and nice and sturdy.
Great quality for the price
