First time using a ribbon microphone. Solid construction and looks very nice. Easy to set up and works great. Using this to record cello. Very nice sounds, picks up all the little details when playing a cello. Highly recommend!

Get this and a "Fethead (regular)" and you'll have enough clean power and tone to use without having to buy an expensive additional preamp. I'm amazed at the sound for this price (or really ANY price)! It's a ribbon and sounds like a ribbon. The back sounds as good as the front also.

My first ribbon mic. I bought after researching sounds & price. Great do money. I paired with an Art Tube MP Project Series, the low impedance sounds very smooth. I bought for round smooth vocals & acoustic guitar. We just tried It first at nursing home singing today.

I bought this for the exact first point Mugz made, as an entry level ribbon to get a feel for using these mostly pricey mics, the R144 is brilliant. I use it regularly on double bass and for some vocals. Admittedly it's very cheap, I think it punches above it's weight though.

Just got the MXL R144 in from AMS and it FAR exceeded my expectations. This really is a good-sounding ribbon mic (especially for the price). It's not as dark as you would think and, with a touch of eq (which it takes quite well), sounds fantastic on voice overs -- very smooth, crystal clear, and no...

I picked up two of these to use as overheads for drums. I love the warm thick tone I'm able to get out of them. The price is unbeatable too considering how sturdy the build is. Highly recommend!

This is my first ribbon mic, but I have been recording long enough to tell that this is a very honest mic. Although it requires a certain control over your dynamics when recording singing, because it is very sensitive. The sound is "realler than real"

I did some research and learned that ribbon mics were recommended for a nice rich warm vocal sound, which is what I was after in my next mic. I just received my MXL R144 last week and am definitely satisfied. I also have the MXL 990 cardioid mic, which I have been pleased with.

I have only had it for a week so I don't know about durability, but it is really smooth, warm, and Simon and Garfunkel sounding!!

This mic is very powerful and can be used in a variety of ways. It can be used for vocal as well as instruments. Please do not use Phantom power on this mic as it will destroy it. This mic by far meets all of my expectations. I've had it a little over a month now and its literally all I've used.
