If you’re in for conservative looks but want some of the best backlighting you’ll find on a keyboard, consider the G810. You’ll either love or hate its relatively soft, lightweight, shallow-travel Romer-G switches.

  • +

Romer-G switches are quieter than Cherry, Beautiful lighting, Dedicated media buttons and volume roller

  • -

Extra ping noise when typing, Keys caps show too much finger-grease shine, Romer-G stems not Cherry compatible

Logitech's G810 Orion Spectrum delivers superb gaming and media control with a spectacular light show to boot.

The K70 RGB is a similar keyboard (full-size, no macro keys, and packing RGB lighting) with excellent media controls, a large palm rest, and USB pass-through. The only downside with Corsair is you can’t sync the lighting between a Corsair keyboard and a Logitech mouse.

  • +

Lighting effects can be synced with those of a compatible Logitech mouse, Excellent media controls, Superb lighting

  • -

No dedicated macro keys, USB pass-through, or palm rest, Different switch-type options would be appreciated

The Logitech Orion Spectrum is a beautiful keyboard with a lot of smart features to suit a wide variety of gamers. The Romer-G keys are a love-it-or-tolerate-it proposition, and I have a few quibbles about the software and typing experience.

  • +

Elegant design, Great performance, Comfortable keys, Gorgeous backlighting

  • -

Some software oddities, Not the fastest for typing

If you’ve read our previous reviews of the G910 and G410 gaming keyboards then you know that although we believe that the Romer-G switches are very good for gaming the lack of tactile feedback and their softer feeling in general make them less suitable for typing and at least for me that’s their...

  • +

    - Solid Build, - Size (Compared To The G910), - Full RGB Key Illumination (16.8m Colors), - Available Effects, - Individual Key Illumination, - Romer-G Mechanical Switches (70M Actuations/Reduced Actuation Force By 25%), - 26-Key Rollover, - Arx Control Integration

  • -

    - Price (For Some), - No USB Ports, - Does Not Support NKRO (N-Key Rollover)

The year 2016 seems to be the year of RGB lighting and Logitech is on this trend as well. Meet the Logitech G810 Orion Spectrum, the company’s latest mechanical keyboard. Inside the box is just the keyboard itself and a simple user’s guide.

  • +

Quiet switches, RGB backlit, Good for typing

  • -

    Price, Lack accessories

With the resurgence of mechanical keyboards over the years, Cherry has celebrated a great comeback in the gaming market as they’ve cemented themselves as the leader in mechanical switches.

  • +

Simple and successful layout, Full RGB lighting, Media keys, Good slip resistance, Good build quality

  • -

Lacks extensive features, Too expensive for what is offered

The Logitech G810 Orion Spectrum RGB Mechanical Keyboard – is the name length necessary? – is sensible and surprisingly slick in its scaled-back design, ticking a lot of boxes that make a gaming keyboard great.

Last year, while building my new PC, I was also in the market for a brand-new keyboard. I previously had a classic rubberdome keyboard, but I decided if I was spending the money, I might as well upgrade to a mechanical model.

For the past 10 years, with a few exceptions, I’ve called the Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 my keyboard of choice. I’ve bought probably nine or 10 of them over the years, hammering through one every couple years thanks to hours and hours of daily typing.

I hunted long and hard to find a mechanical keyboard that didn't have uneven lighting (Cherry switches light up the top of the key but the middle/bottom is dim) and also didn't look stupid.

  • +

    - Beautiful lighting that lights up the whole key evenly, - Neither ugly nor gimmicky looking, - I (subjectively) love the feel of the keys, - Light touch/activation distance, - Only 1 USB port required

  • -

    - Spring noise is very noticeable if you mash the keys heavily, - Feels a bit "scratchy", but likely this can be fixed with some lubrication, - The media buttons are crappy pop-buttons, - Backlight flickers, - No USB passthrough

I was using the Logitech M270 with the G602 mouse, and feel in love with the idea of an expensive gaming keyboard. When my 5-6 year old wireless keyboard was dying, I went ahead and bought a new M270, and for some reason I had some dead keys on the keyboard.

  • +

responsive keys macroing ability to the F keys, that I never really used before easy to use software great lighting effects

  • -

slight pinging sound when you bottom out, or use the space bar heavy does need a wrist rest

For the features this keyboard provides, it makes sense why the price is so high. It comes with the Romer-G mechanical switches; I prefer that over the cherry mechanical switches. The keypresses feel softer and it is good to know that they are more durable than the cherry mechanical switches.
