The Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH. is a sharp, compact wide-angle lens for rangefinder cameras, and it comes with a Leica price tag.

  • +

Compact. Very, very sharp from f/2.8. Edge-to-edge clarity when stopped down. Minimal distortion.

  • -

Expensive. Soft edges at f/2. Manual focus only.

Want a perfect medium lens? It doesn't get any better than this LEICA 35mm f/2 ASPH. The only reason not to get this lens is that once you do, you'll never have any real reason to go lens shopping again. You'll finally be able to just go out and shoot for a change.

  • +

Just about anything. You could spend a lifetime shooting with this 35mm lens and never need another. This is an ideal medium focal-length lens. It's a slightly wide normal, or a very weak wide angle.

  • -

There isn't anything this lens doesn't do well, so if I have to find something, you might want to use a camera other than the M3 because the M3's magnificent high-magnification finder won't cover this 35mm lens.

I am a street photographer who almost exclusively uses rangefinder 35mm focal length lenses. I have tried many different 35mm lens for my various Leica M film and digital cameras. I keep coming back to the Leica 35mm 2.0 Summicron. I think it is the best 35mm rangefinder lens ever made.

I picked this lens up for my Leica M(240) to replace a 50mm Summicron as i wanted something wider. I am constantly being surprised by how sharp and amazing the images are from this lens, even wide open

    Durable, Easy To Use, Lightweight

Bought it used from a forum member at photo.net Besides it being a sharp lens, I also love the tab. At first I thought it was kinda weird, but now I have come to love focusing with one finger.

  • +

sharp lens with great finish (mine is chrome) and heft to match., Focus with one finger!

  • -

the hood does not have a slot so it blocks off some of the viewfinder
