LG's CineBeam HU85LA ultra-short-throw projector has high cool factor, but its limited light output and modest contrast will leave movie fans wanting.
Easy setup and installation, Excellent image clarity, Extensive calibration options for a projector
Low light output, Limited contrast performance, Middling HDR performance
Ultra-short throw offers an easy way to replace a more traditional television or to anchor a small to medium home theater. 120 inches is larger than any TV and even at the 92-inch size I watched, the cinema experience can be fully enjoyed.
Sharp, bright image, Vivid color with excellent contrast, Slick SmartTV interface
An auto-iris for better contrast, More calibration options for HDR content, Better balanced red primary
This is an unexpectedly amazing projector from LG. It resolves the biggest issue with DLP projection by eliminating rainbow artifacts, and since it does this with lasers, it turns on and off right away, has minimal fan noise, and calibrates extremely precisely.
The LG CineBeam HU85LA made its first appearance at CES 2019, where it won an Innovation Award. LG is known for their smart TVs and smart projectors, the most recently reviewed being their CineBeam HU80KA.
Smarter than your average projector
Compact and solidly entertaining, and ideally suited for bright-room viewing. Just don't expect HDR thrills.
Provided you're not susceptible to seeing the LG HU85LS's rainbow-like colour noise, it's a uniquely smart, user-friendly and effective addition to the growing "living room projector" market
Bright, colourful HDR pictures, Excellent, TV-like user system; includes streaming app support, Very good sound for a projector
Black levels in dark rooms are only decent, Some rainbow-like noise, Not as cheap as non-laser models
The LG HU85LA CineBeam ultra short-throw projector is at the cutting edge of projection technology and boasts a stunning image quality - but you can find traditional projectors that look just as good for cheaper.
Excellent image quality, LG’s WebOS is great, Classy design, Super smart features
You’ll need nicer speakers, Expensive
I first purchased the less expensive brands. They had edge warping issues and central focus with extremely fuzzy edges. I finally purchased the HU85 and all those issues are gone. This is brighter, sharper and smarter than the others.
ease of use, Features/Settings, Performance, Quality
The projector shoots a line from light beam down middle of screen that is distracting. I bought a AEON elite screen in hopes of having best projector quality. I cannot figure out how to get the center line beam from being so noticeable/glaring.
I have just looked at the you tube review from Korea I thought it looks amazing with the ambient light screen it really looks great. The price can be a little high but in a year or so it will become lower as with most new tech so if people cant afford it yet like myself you can wait for the next...
I've been anticipating the release of the HU85LA since NAB 2019. It’s now mid-May and there is still no price available even though all previous models have been reduced. I think I speak for everyone when I say I'm happy to wait for this product as long as the retail price is released ASAP and demo...
I've read a lot of reviews and I've seen a number of demos. I'm waiting with held breath for the price to be announced. The Dell model is far too expensive when you look at large screen displays. XGIMI LUNE and WEMAX ONE PRO are relatively cheap. This projector has so much promise .
Style/Design, Features/Settings, Quality
Purchased the HU85LA just under one year ago. I am using it on a high quality 120" light canceling screen made for laser projectors in my home theater. The projector is simple to set up and does not require distance more than 14" from the screen. No shadow puppets when people get up.
Many great things I could say about this projector, but the light beam others have referenced towards the middle of the image is crazy distracting. Especially at this price point. LG, any ideas or setting that can address this?
