I purchased this scope on the recommendation of several colleagues who have 821s and I am very pleased. I had been using an inexpensive 20-60x60 and find the Kowa 82SV is much sharper and brighter at 200 yards.
I upgraded from an older TSN-1, which is still a good scope. The 82sv is very clear, it is a great choice. I use mine for HP rifle competition and can see 22 cal. holes at 200yds, sometimes at 300yds.
I bought this spotting scope because it had excellent reviews and a good price. After receiving the scope I had a chance to compare it side by side with much higher price scopes. The TSN-82SV was almost as clear as the much higher price scopes but at a much lower price.
The gold standard for high power rifle competition!
love the brightness for bird watching and I'm anxious to try it on whale watching.
Good Points: Just a great scope.Improvement Points: Nothing.
Great spotting scope for benchrest shooting!
I use this spotting scope for looking at rifle targets both during practice sessions and at actual Matched to read the markers. For many years I suffered along with an inexpensive $150 scope of my own and had to use our Team Captains spotter for serious use and anything beyons 100 yards.
This is my first spotting scope bought after extensive research based on reading specs and customer reviews. I ordered the scope with the TE-9Z 20-60x Zoom eyepiece and the Kowa Cordura Carrying Case. I'm able to read names of ships at sea, as far as in a couple of nautical miles from me.
We shoot 500 to 1000 yards, and our cheap old spotting scope broke inside, so we read reviews, forums, customer product reviews for a few weeks. We chose this Kowa with the 25X long eye relief eyepiece based on all that, and we are just delighted.
