I have owned this unit for a year and a half, and I love it. I use the microwave/convection oven a lot, more than the large oven, and I think it is the best unit I have ever used. Everything turns out perfect. The larger oven is equally incredible.
This gets a bad wrap in the reviews, and I ony brought it as I was stuck to replacing my ond one with a combination oven of the same dimensions. Easy to install, looks good, and works great!
Oven preheats very slowly, e.g 30+ minutes and still can't get to 400. Have to turn it off, and turn it on again. Microwave sometimes doesn't heat and light doesn't come on. Microwave sometimes leaves 1 second left on timer. Pretty poor overall.
The main oven takes forever to reach selected temperature. In particular, there's a very long wait between 395 and 400 degrees. Our old Whirlpool reached cooking temp in about half the time. For the price, this is pretty lame.
I hate this oven combo unit. I picked this to replace the model they had before because we were remodeling our kitchen, I loved the previous model and wish I would have just kept it. This takes 20 plus minutes to heat to 375 degrees.
We bought the KEMS308SSS..Had it installed in January 2012 when we remodeled our kitchen. The Magnetron & Sub Inverter just went out. The cost to repair is over $1,000.00 of course the parts are not covered under warranty. I am very disappointed with Kitchenaid.
This microwave doesn't have an interior light, a significant design oversight since food routinely can burn or over-boil in a microwave within seconds. The convection heating element may supply some light to the interior when in use, but there's no light when the door opens, either.
The Good: * Great looking unit * Love the large oven and huge glass window and glide-out rack * Cooks very evenly * Microwave has some neat features and appears to function as a legitimate second oven The Bad: * Microwave fan continues to run after cooking is complete, very annoying.
Maybe we got a lemon, but have had this oven for almost 2 years, and I HATE it! I am a very good baker, and was known for my grommet cupcakes. In my old oven, the cupcakes baked for 21 minutes and were perfect every time. This oven is so inconsistent. The exact same recipe now takes 13 minutes.
I don't normally give one star reviews, but... We only used the microwave of this combination unit maybe ten times previously when after about two minutes of reheating, there was a popping noise, after which the microwave failed to start again.
