Continue to review this camera ( previous review on 5-14-2016).Updated newest firmware version 0305-0182 the camera will not have any problem about blue light...
SUMMARY The GY-HM170U is a high-end consumer camcorder with many professional features. It can record excellent video in UHD, has a 12X zoom lens, and, through its attached handle, provides inputs and power for XLR microphones. Feature for feature, it is far less expensive than its competitors.
I purchased this camera for a specific project that needed run and gun capabilities...fast and accurate auto focus, image stabilizer, XLR audio in... in short the type of camera I had for many years prior to DSLR / separate audio recording. I am a one-man-band so to speak.
Great addition to my camera arsenal, small and economic with plenty of features! I Love It!
Excellent cameras, I have 3 just be careful in low light! Quality degrades so be prepared to light situations, outdoor quality is excellent, indoor is very good with decent light. Low light is not an option!
For concert recording in a concert hall - I have to record from 49 feet away, and the lower lighting images are OK, not great, I stepped up 3DB of gain without any problems and I thought the image I have was amazing, from first impressions and being 49 feet away.
No this is not a camera you want if you will be doing extensive low light shooting. If your not, the video reproduced by this camera is absolutely fantastic. I have the option of shooting 4K, editing in HD with the added flexibility of expanding the frame with no loss of resolution.
Perfect size and zoom in capabilities
Unfortunately, we have had problems with this camera from day one. At first we thought it might be user error, but after extensive testing it appears to have some major focus issues. it does not hold focus and auto focus does not work so about 75% of our shots are not crisp.
I have been using this camera for a couple of years in a part-time ENG capacity. Business has not been good enough to purchase a new camera, otherwise I would have replaced the GY-HM170UAlong ago. I have been limping along with it, and its problems have cost me several good shots.First, the good.
