I bought this for my Tokina 11-16. You do get the X effect with this filter higher in the darkness of the filter but that is to be expected. It does provide enough stops to shoot with a wide aperture in daylight so I am pleased with the product.

As others have said, you get a weird cross pattern right near the extreme dark end. You can get pretty close to it though. And you can skip that little section to go to the max darkness. I'd guess 10% of the range is unusable, but given how it works, I don't think there is a way around it.

I bought this filter to use with my Nikkor 85mm f1.8 so that I can shoot at larger apertures. I haven't shot much with the filter yet, but it seems to do the job well. It's well built and appears to have good optical quality. A good value.

I got this filter after reading several reviews, one by Ron Martinsen, in which he did a comparison between this filter and an older Singh-Ray he owned. His impressions were that it worked very well. Then I found an article by Peter Hill from Sydney, Australia.

Works for me. Having a variable adjustment is nice. Not giving 5 stars because I find the rotating part very light. I would have preferred more resistance or maybe with click stops

Successfully blocks an accurate 3-stops of light (as advertised), with no loss in sharpness, or color shift.

The Hoya 77mm Variable ND filter works very well and has been compared to Variable ND filters that cost substantially more (Singh-Ray) in directed comparison and the Hoya came close to the Singh-Ray specs.

I have not used it enough to rate it 5 star, but so far so good. Works well in bright sunlight.

The most versatile filter I have in my photo accessories. Eliminates the need to carry multiple ND Filters

The Hoya variable neutral density filter worked really well the first time I used it. The next day I pulled it out to use again and when I dialed it up to about 7 stops, there was no effect at all.
