I purchased this as a light pollution filter and it does help to reduce the orange yellow glow from city lights in astro images. The filter is not a substitute for a good dark sky location but it can reduce some of the background glow from a night photo in populated areas.
This product was recommended to me to help reduce the gross orange haze of light pollution in my night/astro photos. It's really helped pull out a lot more detail in what I've captured, so I'm quite pleased. I'm city based and I think that's where it's really useful for me.
I bought this mainly for my video. However, compared with the Tiffen 62mm I've purchased before, this puts a very strong green color cast over the clips. It can be corrected in post. But it gets very annoying after a while.
This is an amazing filter. Very clean, easy and smooth operation. I shoot video outside all day, constantly towards and against the sun, this allows me to walk around all day without worrying about carrying a bunch of filters.
This is a very nice variable ND. I like the markings which are better than my Tiffen's. The only thing I don't like is the thin outter lip which doesn't hold a lens cap well.
The filter gets very clear image without vingeting. Very happy!!!
degree of darkening not even throughout the image.
the Hoya 58mm variable neutral density filter is on the cheaper end and it shows but that being sed if it was all you had it will work in a pinch I dont consider this to be a professional nd filter
I bought this for video and it functions as advertised. Im not a professional but there does not seem to be a noticeable color cast. The only downside is the 360 degree free spinning.
Good quality glass, easy to use. Finally getting the shots that I've been planning for since I bought my new lens!
