A key detractor of previous Pavilion 15 laptops was the unattractive budget design language. A quick look at the old 2015 Pavilion 15 versus a MacBook Pro shows why the Pavilion can retail for less than half the price of the Apple.

GeForce MX150 and AMD Ryzen 5 options, relatively cool core temperatures, good Turbo Boost performance, sleeker, Envy-like design, full-size NumPad, narrow bezels, USB Type-C, quiet fan

dim backlight; poor outdoor visibility, slow primary HDD performance, system fan is always active, no USB Type-C charging, soft keyboard feedback, difficult serviceability, soft trackpad keys, lid tends to teeter, 1x1 WLAN module, poor 768p display, slow SD reader
I bought this laptop and out of the box it is slow, I will admit that. What I did is install a solid state drive hard drive in this laptop and now it is super fast and runs quiet. Windows loads in 5 seconds. This laptop has great processor, great ram, and good video card.
We were looking to purchase a laptop to do podcasts on. We needed one that had enough speed and memory. A lot of the other computers only had 4mb of memory but this one had 12mb which is great. Not only is my husband able to do podcasts but I could also purchase photo editing software for myself!
Size of screen just right, beautiful colors, keyboard has big flat keys, big numbers and letters. All quiet to type but very nice sound for music and voiceMouse arrow hard to spot. So far all great, but still have to get used to it. Marlene T
Laptop making a high pitched noise that is originating from the fan below the laptop. I was sad to return the items since the speed and everything else was good on the laptop..... But the noise was unbearable in just few days so unless HP address the issue i feel people will keep returning the item
To start off, if you buy this PC and intend to use the standard 1TB hard drive, just avoid this machine. Also, anyone giving it 1 star for that reason hurts this product. It's so slow, it will handicap this PC's true potential. Installing an SSD is a must. I installed a Crucial MX500 500GB.
Bought this for my 15 years old. She picked this one herself. She has been playing with it for a few days so far. She said she loves the laptop. The only complain from her is the startup takes longer than expected. Once start, it runs smoothly at a decent speed. Good screen size, better for eyes.
A good machine with particularly fast wi fi connection. Once getting rid of bloatware and configuring Windows the way you want it (which is arduous), the machine runs well. It would have been even better with a DVD reader/writer and a removable battery.
The fan or internals make a high pitched sound that is like a jet engine taking off, only softer..really annoying.Replaced two year old laptop and do not notice any faster online interactions, in some cases seems to take longer. Internet speed from provider has remained the same.
Other than the hard drive, the specs are pretty good. the build quality is nice. however, the hard drive is so slow. this makes the laptop feel super slugish throughout everyday use. apps take forever to open, moving files takes forever, and constant hitches and slowdowns are experienced.
The power and responsiveness of the WiFi transceiver means I'm no longer out of range from my WiFi router in my house. We like to keep numerous apps open at the same time so the amount of ram included without extra expense was nice. Oh did I mention how much I enjoy the back-lit keyboard.
