I'm an older woman who has been lugging around a very heavy, albeit very sturdy, Manfrotto tripod for my independent documentary films. Just couldn't handle it anymore, and was looking for something very light weight that did the job almost as well.
I wasn't able to fully inspect this tripod when I first purchased it so it was over 30 days before I was able to get around to extending the legs out fully and that's when one of the legs fell off!
Day 5 on a doc shoot, legs extenders jammed and unscrewed completely. The result was one leg fell off as I was setting up a shot and when it jammed I couldn't lower as low as I needed. I was rough with them, like all my tripods but this has never happened with any other tripod I've used.
honestly feels like it was crafted from heavens blacksmith. the tilting assembly, like another reviewer mentioned, it protected by a thing stretchy dental dam type rubber, that's probably the only thing that doesnt seem to be perfect. even the tripod smells good. extremely light and sturdy.
I use this with several cameras and a Kirk BH-3 ballhead. The leveling feature is very helpful in shooting multiframe panoramas, and the height is exactly right for my 5'8" frame. The carbonfiber-and-magnesium construction is light and strong.
Smooth and light. Beautifully made, but too much on the "fiddly-bit" side of things. Not quite up to what I expected for Gitzo. Came with $ "rebate" but I have to spend only on another Gitzo product - what can a person buy from Gitzo for $ that's worth anything?
Excellent tripod. Intergraded leveling plate is a great addition to an already excellent tripod, and is a great help in setting up quickly on uneven ground in the field. Have owned a Gitzo #GT2541LLVL for a couple of years now, having had great results with it in the field.
I have a Gitzo 3541XLS and Sachtler FSB-8 head for shooting video but was looking for a more compact and lightweight solution for overseas travel when every ounce of extra weight in the bag counts.
Exceedingly expensive but it is an excellent tripod. The tripod is faster to fold up than the older versions which is a tradeoff for not having the infinite adjustment of the 2228 and like tripods.
This tripod supports over 25 pounds yet weighs under 5 lbs. and it has the quick leveling feature. A level tripod head is needed for panning, video, panoramics, and even wedding group photos and this tripod makes it very fast to achieve this without adjusting the legs.
