It's not bad, but given that the diameter of the top is same as GT3542LS and the leg diameters are bigger (and stiffer) on the 3542l (and it weighs only slightly more) I exchanged it.
I'm a landscape photographer and found the size and portability of the 2542LS to be its best qualities, but it isn't a very good landscape tripod. It is light and I did encounter problems with wind vibration and instability.I've tried four different tripod heads with the 2542LS, including a Nodal...
This is a beautiful well-made tripod that is terrific for light weight use but questionable for the big guns. I would have given it 5 stars if not for my particular circumstances. Unfortunately it's rated for 50lb plus and up to a 600mm lens.
Very good tripod, but the lowest parts of its legs are just too thin - the tripod isn`t stable as rock when fully open. When I close 1 section - it is MUCH better. So - for those who are looking for very solid tripod - you better look for 3 Systematic series!
Recently took this tripod to a weekend holiday with my family to June Lake, California and the Gitzo 2542LS performed excellent. I've owned a Gitzo 5-series, RRS-TVC33, and an Induro AT-213 tripods.
