Used for birding with scope. The more I use this head the more I like. Secure system 2 quick release and one hand tilt/pan control.is ideal for birding. At first pan did not seem smooth but seems better with use.
I originally purchased this tripod head with digiscoping in mind. I really liked the idea of locking down both pan and tilt with one knob. What I found, however, when I connected just my scope (Swaro ATX 85mm) was that I really had to crank down on the nob to lock it into place and in the process...
the worst design ever, not stable, not user-friendly
Quality of head itself is perfect. However handle bar simply cannot be attached to device because it's diameter is higher than the mounting clip and connecting bolt is not able to go through unless you drill the hole. Obviously handle was made in "China" not in Gitzo plant.
I use this head on the gitzo 2542 mountain series2 carbon fiber tripod.i mount my Leica 82 spotting scope on it.perfect setup.i am very happy with this combo.very light and easy to carry.
This head worked great when new, failed in 90 days, and was replaced. The 2nd one worked for about a year before failing. The failure mode is the vertical tilt gets stiffer and stiffer, until it is nearly locked solid.
This is the perfect fluid head for wildlife watching, and particularly birdwatching. The single control for horizontal and vertical control makes it easy to follow sometimes random wildlife movement. The head is very steady when locked or even partially locked.
I got the Gitzo GH2720QR for use with my Kowa TSN 883 spotting scope. I selected the Gitzo based on reviews I read. Overall, I am satisfied with the Gitzo. The only issue I have is with the use of a single knob to tighten both the horizontal and vertical movement of the head.
This is very fluid, solid and stable, it also works nicely for lightweight DSLR video panning, well worth the money. However, I'm giving 4 stars since the camera mounting screw is a loose screw (i.e., not attached to anything), not sure why such a great company would do something so stupid..
This is a really smooth tripod head for supporting and panning with a spotting scope or small telescope.
