This is a light weight/compact fluid head i use on my travel tripod. It has the smoothest movement of any head I have tried.
Purchased Gitzo G2180 Tripod Head for the wife for her new spotting scope to keep her spotting scope system under seven pounds. Helping her carry with ease when we are out and about in the field. The ease of using this tripod head is just amazing it just handles so smoothly.
It's light, small and works fine.
I bought this head as I have a couple of carbon fibre Gitzo tripods. Unfortunately it does not perform as I would wish although it's described as a fluid head. Using a 400/600 lens centre balanced on this head on a tripod I found it was somewhat jerky in operation.
Compact, Easily Adjusted, Lightweight
Excellent video head. I am using this one with Canon 6d and a 24-105 lens. The counter balance works keeping the camara balanced. The pan and tilt are smooth with this head. It is extremely light and compact. I am very happy with it.
It is very light and well built. The slip adjustment is not quite accurate enough. The quick plate used to fit similar type of Manfrotto but not any more. Not sure what that would have to be.
This Gitzo G2180 fluid head is used during traveling and or quick easy set up for DSLR video with Canon DSLR-s 7D and 5DMKIII. This is a goldilocks of fluid head if you complement picture shooting with video footage.
Although initially it seems strange, the head works very well with a scope without the handle. Joint point it and it stays in position. The counter balancing mechanism makes it stable. It is a series 1 product, but plenty sturdy for a scope and lighter weight than the higher series heads.
Use two of these heads for tripod & monopod. (Canon HV40 & XH-A1s vid cams) Yeah, that coin operated screw is dumb, dumb, immeasurably stupid but this is how I overcame that lame idea. Hardware store - Locate 1 3/8 long METRIC screw (take camera screw to make certain you have correct thread pitch).
I purchased this head for use with (sports) photography and video. Great for this use. But plate is different from Gitzo photography plates, so I need to change plates every time I move my camera from one tripod to the other (e.g., using the side mounted ball head)
