This is a small, well-built ballhead and is serving me well. It's perfect for my micro four thirds system. However, no product is perfect and there are two negatives I've found that other purchasers should be aware of: 1)The panning base is extremely stiff in cold weather.
I have used this head for a few years. And although the ease of the knobs is great and it holds my nikon 55-300 just fine, my big complaint is that I always need an allen wrench with me to tighten the location where the plate and the ballhead meet.
I was looking for a medium size ballhead that would securely hold my mid-size camera, an Olympus OM-D E-M1. The Giottos MH-1302 with quick release works perfectly for this application. The clamps hold the camera with the 300mm (600 mm in 35mm equivalent terms) lens very securely.
Great Ballhead that can hold up to 13 lbs. In my opinion Tension Control is a must, Panning Lock is additional treat. This ballhead greatly complements my lightweight MT-8350 MT Series Professional Carbon Fiber Tripod. Arca Swiss compatible.
This is the head I use for my wide angle lens. It's so small and light weight that I can carry it in my pocket and take the gimbel head off the tripod and slip it on and use the wide angle whenever I want to switch from telephoto.
Great things, easy to adjust, easy to you. Great value for the money Not so great things, Sags with D7000 grip and a 24-85 on it. Trying using 80-200 on it and useless. If you know the limitations its amazing.
Highly functional and very stable for its size.
I wanted a small ballhead for my Panasonic G5 and G1 mirrorless cameras. I had another brand which was not satisfactory for the longer telephoto lenses. This one holds extremely well. In fact, I put my Canon 40D with a 200mm F2.8 on it and is was steady as a rock.
Really intuitive. Does just what you want. Easy , firm adjustments, no hastle. small - medium size
For its weight, it's a very competent head. Easily holds its rated weight and the pan fluidity isn't bad for a head so small, although if you want better you'd want a larger version. I've used Giottos and other heads, for years now, and I like the Giottos best.
