I've owned this device for a couple of months now. The hardware is fine. The Garmin software infrastructure is a nightmare to use, with too many settings and hidden buttons and switching between the Garmin device, the Garmin Earthmate app on your phone, and the Garmin Explore website.
This unit is pretty handy… an excellent way to stay in touch with the family while in the back-country. One feature that I would like to see is a new mode, similar to the XT tracking mode, except for satellite messaging: it would be neat if the whole unit could be set power off completely during the...

can be slow to send / receive
Bought this for off the grid dirt bike riding out west. Needed something to signal that either A) I am okay or B) send help now! It tracks the route well and sends a lot of good info (lat-long, map etc) in the event of a problem.
Out of the box, the quality of the device is noticeable. Well designed, comfortable, and rugged. The display is small, and navigating is indeed a bit clumsy with just two buttons, but those are design decisions and expected with a product clearly marketed as a minimalist approach to backcountry...
I find myself continually frustrated how complicated this thing is. It's way too hard to set up and understand, and even after you invest many hours into grappling with the menus and app you'll find that you have to relearn everything if you don't use it every day because it's not at all intuitive.
Nice to know that I could get help if needed!
