Some customers don't like that it isn't a touch screen, Some say the screen is too small
I love my 30x. I take it all over the world with me it's light weight, easy to use , and has expandable memory to carry larger maps. Saving waypoints is easy, and the altimeter us very useful. I use the disposable lithium batteries and get several days of use out of them.
I found I could not download previously stored data from my computer as I did not have Birdseye loaded on the ,newly purchased GPS .I did not realise there was an annual subscription required for Birdseye . I'm using the Garmin Etrex 30 x for hillwalking in Ireland mainly.
Device is sturdy and has good signal. But you need a software engineering degree to load maps and make tracks. Many hours and was not able to make useful hiking track. Sticking to smart phone. Used alltrails and in less than 3 minutes had trail plotted and loaded into phone.
I do a lot of solo backpacking, and I love to spend my trips off-trail. I consider my GPS device to be not a nice item to have, but instead I consider it a very important safety item to have with me. I really rely on it!
Me and my gf bought this for our week long hike in Norway, at times when we worried about snow covering up all routes. And man we were right. This little thing has a LOT of third party support online, which means you don't have to buy the expensive Gramin maps, and you can download tracks that...
Second one I have owned. Use it often. Always accurate.
The only frustrating part with this GPS is trying to find out where to download the maps so I bought the one X hunt chip
Compact easy to use
You need to be a bit of a wizz to read let alone understand the whole instruction manual but the machine itself is pretty easy to deal with.....
clunky hard to use interface made it irritating to operate returned it bought a touch screen Garmin Oregon LOVE IT
