Bought this for thanksgiving. Received it yesterday. Out of Box offerings are really cool. Device is working fine till now. Will post another review after a month of usage.
Sorry I can't give more important details about this GPS, but the purpose for buy it was to use as a speedometer. However, I've probably had 5 Garmins over the years, and presently use a 7" Garmin for our Coach and I use all the features. I believe Garmin Nuvi is one of the best out there.
Works perfectly for my needs in the US and Canada. The options are many and a great device for the price.
I use this for mostly driving in unfamiliar places and to find local addresses. It functions well as a basic GPS. I did not want voice activation, Bluetooth or smartphone connection. I just want driving directions over a speaker, so I don’t have to use a cellphone for GPS.
I bought the Drive 51 LM as a replacement for an older Garmen GPS. I was very impressed with the out of the box functionality. It provides so much more information automatically then previous versions.
It generally works fine though references related to the right side can be confusing since often there are ramp (exit) lanes so being "two lanes from the right lane" may be ambiguous. This can be a problem if driving in unfamiliar locations, routes, destinations or at night.
I’ve been testing this out now for a month in a couple different areas of the country. The GPS is a low quality unit. It has slow processing power which translates into missed turns moving in urban areas. It can’t keep up recalculating. Four Square and Trip Advisor clutteres the map.
Before getting this Garmin, I had a Garmin Nuvi which I loved. First of all, it arrived without a packing slip in the box. That was needed in the event I wanted to return it which I seriously wanted to do. Then there was very LITTLE information on how to operate it.
spent almost an hour downloading latest maps after receiving unit. Maps don't show latest road changes from 12 months ago (rt 531 terminus) and not east to see surface streets, lane guidance on interstate interchanges. Wish my old tomtom was still supported...
finds addresses fast, use it for general destinations.
