Poor materials
I always try and buy GE products however I am very disappointed in this stove top. It was a Christmas present and has been in use only 4 months. It is only used by my wife and I. We do not use it a lot as we are not feeding a large family. The paint is already wearing off the cooking grates from pots and pans and the burners are discoloring. At only 4 months old what am I supposed to expect it to look like in a few years? I love the design of the stove but question the materials and paint used in its manufacture. It was fairly inexpensive so I guess you get what you pay for.

Poor performance/materials do not last
Came here to see if there might be a recall for this cooktop. We are experienced cooks and have been using gas cooktops for decades and never had the issues that we have had with this cooktop.
First, the knobs are cheap, fragile plastic and broke within several months.
Second, the burners are dangerously slippery, especially noticeable with the front burners--my pans have almost slipped off the front burners many times while cooking--we've adapted and are now exceedingly careful, but I find it troublesome. Overall we were happy with the look and style of the cooktop but very disappointed in the quality and performance.

So far so good
It's only been about a month since I installed this cook-top. So far it has completely lived up to our expectations. We particularly like the range of heat options. The largest burner at 15000 BTU can heat a pot of water in no time while the smallest when turned to its lowest setting is a true simmer burner. Installation was a bit of a challenge as the cook-top we replaced, while the same width on top, was recessed more so that the cutout needed to be enlarged. At the same time the depth of this unit is greater than the old one which means it impinged on the sidewall of the cabinet next to it. So it took longer than expected but turned out great.

Nice but ...
I bought this as a replacement for an 18 year old GE cooktop because it was the same size and the countertop cutout dimensions were the same. However, I did not know the regulator was in a different place than my old GE cooktop regulator. I have drawers under the cooktop, thus the installer had to cut the back of one drawer to accommodate the regulator and be able to close the drawer. No where in the product literature prior to purchase was the space needed for the regulator mentioned. I was very upset to have to cut the back of my cabinet drawer plus I had to pay the installer extra to do that!

Just installed but great so far!
I bought this unit to replace a much older (circa 1999) molder of the same type, which was an off-white coated model. I have been in the process of updating all my appliances to stainless steel and I finally found this unit which was the perfect for my kitchen! Install was a piece of cake as all it took was unhooking the gas line, removing the mounting braces, lifting out the old, dropping in the new and hooking it all back up. The burners are so much better and things have been cooking twice as fast as I'm used to! Couldn't be happier with my purchase and how great it looks and operates!

Love my new Cooktop!
I've always used a free-standing range. I decided to change to a cooktop with remodeling my kitchen. I chose the GE cooktop, and I am very pleased with my purchase. On the countertop it is at the perfect height and reach for cooking. I like the burner knobs on the side of the cooktop making it safer and less chances of bumping into them. I like the depth of the inside area of the burners, so if there is a spill it is contained in the well and not all over the top of the counter. I also like the feature of the smaller burner to help keep things warm and the larger burner to heat up larger pots. Makes making spaghetti faster. The grates are very sturdy and support the pots and pans that I use on them.

Does the job
This cooktop is awesome. Lots of cooktops have 4 separate burners in the actual unit but this one has a basin which makes cleaning a breeze. Installation was super easy as well. It comes with brackets so you can secure it to the cabinets. This feature eliminated a lot of play in the unit. The only thing that I would criticize on this unit is that there isn’t a stopper when going from ‘lite’ to ‘hi’ which existed on my older GE model. The stopper was nice because you knew exactly where your highest Hi was. With this one you have to have some guess work. I would recommend this unit to anyone that likes cooking on gas!
