Good Electric Coil Range
GE 30" Free-Standing Electric Range, model JBS460DM3BB, is a good basic coil range. The range features the control knobs on the front of the range. The oven knob has the temperature on the dial which makes it easy to see the temperature setting and there is a light that indicates when the oven is heating. Unfortunately, the oven light does not come on when you open the door. You must use the light switch instead. It has taken a few months to determine consistent oven temperature. It does seem to be off by 50 degrees.
The burner knobs have the setting on the range, because of this placement it can be difficult to see the setting unless you lean down. Two of the burners heat quickly and the other two are slow to heat.

I want to bake from
Not great-oven temp "off" in no predictable way,
Cooktop works fine until an element breaks, and one can boil water at "two" setting.
This is my second one that I had as new, in which the oven temperature was poorly calibrated after I plugged it in and put it in the kitchen. I wouldn't recommend it for a serious baker or someone who likes to cook rather than eat out: the temperatures are all over the place, and even using different oven thermometers doesn't help much. The GE model before this one lasted about 5 years before the oven temp couldn't be adjusted by a repairman anymore, and the large front burner boiled water at a "2" setting.

Back to basics
After having issues with a glass top stove in my old house (hard to clean, hard to regulate heat), I thought I would be happy in my new house with a gas stove. I was wrong, as it constantly leaked gas odor and the oven was never up to proper temperature even though we tried to calibrate it using the digital display several times. (And I had to Google the instructions on that!)
So I decided to go back to basics and buy a simple coil electric range. This one is different than most though, because the dials are on the front instead of on the back of the range. I wanted this on purpose so that I wouldn't have to reach over hot pots and pans and burn myself. Besides that, there are no extra timers or alarms or anything I won't use anyway - so I love the basic simplicity. It looks and keeps clean so easily - And it cooks great!
I did have to calibrate the oven when I first got it, because it seemed to be off by about 50º. Wow, was it easy. Simply done by turning the screws on the back of the oven knob to compensate. Done. I love simple and basic. This is it. And can't beat the price. I am on a budget, and this one fit right in. My last glass top one cost hundreds more - and in the end I hated it....

Initial Thermostat problem otherwise OK
My new stove's oven thermostat did not work properly from the first day I got the stove and had to be replaced by GE. After the part was replaced and calibrated by the GE serviceman, the oven still runs a bit cooler than the settings on the dial. I like that the control knobs are in the front of the stove so I don't have to reach over hot burners and hot pots to control the stove and oven.
It is easy to clean spills under the stove top burners as the entire top of the the stove lifts up for easy access. I do canning which is why I wanted this model stove. Many electric stove models have ceramic tops. I was warned by the appliance salesman that cast iron pots would scratch the ceramic and also the burners on ceramic stoves did not get hot enough to use in canning.
Other electric stoves have the control knobs on the back with one of the two large burners in the back right in front of the knobs! I need two large burners to can, one for the pot to sterilize the jars and the other for the stock pot. Having the control knobs in the back behind a large boiling pot won't work. So this model stove had those features I wanted EXCEPT that it does not have a self-cleaning oven, To me, that was the biggest drawback of this model, but I could not find a GE coil top stove with knobs in the front that had a self cleaning oven.

I bought a range in the store. but then got a call that the one I chose was unavailable due to covid. they offered me a similar one. It is a disappointment. the temperature of the oven seems off. takes forever to preheat. and the entire stove get very hot when the oven is on.
