G-Technology 3TB G-DRIVE with Thunderbolt

Even though it was expensive, it's made such an improvement for my home recording setup that I'm happy I went with a thunderbolt external hard drive instead of another USB or firewire drive.

I'm counting on the robustness and professional build quality of this device, but there are two things that I did not expect: 1. it is very loud. When the drive is really reading fast, it is very audible. Loudest drive I've ever heard...and it is operating normally. 2.

I am a fan of Gtech drives, I used 4 for them for my film and they work great with Thunderbolt and USB3. The are solid and you can count on the quality from Gtech.

This is the only brand of hard drives I use for work and personal. This particular model of the G-Technology G-Drive is what I prefer to use for business.

Has functioned flawlessly for 6 months as Time Machine backup. It must be connected to your computer to power up!! The AC adapter alone is not enough. Once I disconnected the drive's USB cable from my computer and panicked when the drive wouldn't turn on. Don't panic. Keep it connected.

Drive is failing under very light use in under a year.
